Very good price for a solid build, good performance and well cooled/ventilaized mid-range router. Only thing I don't like is a bit wider in side. I paid $190 last month.

  • How reliable are these compared to the Asus modem routers? My Huawei one can't keep up with torrenting @75% nbn50 speed with a ethernet line and web browsing at the same time

    • I can't speak for the TP-Link one(s) but my gl.inet AX1800, which is a similar price, has been really solid and has had no issues keeping up with my 250MB FTTP connection.

Are you sure the issue is your router? It might be that you're not quite getting 50Mbps bandwidth, so what you think is 75% of your bandwidth you're dedicating to torrents is actually closer to 100%. And/or maybe you need to limit the number of inbound/outbound connections for torrents as well.

    • In term of quality tplink is better than ASUS, that ASUS's OEM maker Arcadyan is not reliable. Same thing in Telstra Smart modem Gen2, which has two makers, the Arcadyan varian is quite bad in quality. Performance wise is almost the same if at the same price range.

  • I have FTTC NBN. Will this work if I connect it to the existing NBN box (model NDD-0300) or do I need a modem/router combo?

Also I'm currently using an Archer vr1600v, will I see much improvement in quality with this router? I'm really just looking for something with lots of features to play around with and start a small home lab.

    Thanks :)

You need a modem, the black NBN box isn't that.

EDIT: Just looked up FTTC and you might be right check out this https://www.nbnco.com.au/learn/network-technology/fibre-to-t… says that between the NBN connection box is a WIFI gateway that's all (connected via ethernet)

      • The NBN box I have is white but looking at that website I might be in the clear. Thanks Jazza

    • Yes this one works. FTTC only need router, you plug in your router to the white NBN modem. NBN FTTB, FTTN will need VDSL modem router. vr1600v is not that good, most of the failure I found is not lasting long, most likely because of overheating, and its wifi is slow as well.

      • What about hfc?

  • Does this work with NBN HFC?

That's the older AX50 which apparently is prone to overheating based on reviews I've seen.
