They might have found it more profitable to charge more to the committed readers than to make the price more accessible to casuals. Bookworms value reading highly and tend to build large libraries

I just pretend to cancel my membership and they usually offer x3 months at $8. Then do 1 month regular price and rinse and repeat.
Sometimes wven suspend acc if i haven't finished my previous book.
