EB really bringing out the big guns…

    • +15

No bargains in the sale tho

      • +6

Gotta pay for that uber somehow…

  • +2

wh…what? Couldnt see any dislaimers/ or t and c's - there is no min spend?

  • +8

not seeing any free delivery, still the awful $18.95 for sending a game within the state.

    • means you don't live close to any EBGames allowing Uber delivery

    • Pathetic isn't it? A game can be sent from the UK for as little as $3.

      • +3

        Name checks out

      • +1

$3 from the UK and sometimes faster than the same thing sent from QLD. I don't know how they do it, it feels like a cheat code irl.

      • -1

        The same day?

    • Last time I checked I could've swore it was $9.95, now $18.95 delivery. Surely EB must realise how ridiculous this is?

      • Think the $18.95 they are taking about is the same delivery option via Uber.

I am seeing home delivery $5.95 for TLOU2 PS4 as an example.

      • Delivery prices are all over the shop, I think it depends where they ship from (their warehouse or a store, and how remote that store is).

Sometimes, if you can work out if something is in stock at the warehouse and not at your local, they will ship it to the local store for free, or used to anyway.

I think the double carrots bonus on any advertised Black Friday products is the better deal…

    • +10

Not really, carrots have no real value

      • +3

Well they made me plenty of money with my Level 4 perks during the trade in events.

        • +1

That's true but it really depends on how you use EB. Just buying stuff? Free delivery is better.

        • Once you’re at level 4 but additional points do nothing for you unless you’re in the 0.1% spending thousands a year at EB to qualify for level 5 for 12 months.

Sitting on 26k points having passed the 9.5k to get to level 4 what must have been nearly a decade ago, but the subsequent 17k points have been meaningless as I’ll never qualify for level 5 under the current scheme. Would be nice if they found a way to make collecting them past getting level 4 have a purpose.

Still, I’ve found some of those 20% bonus trade in offers on consoles they run to not be too bad at times, so it’s not a complete loss.

          • @Smigit: Oh yeah totally agree. No way will I bother trying to get to level 5, as the mount you need to spend defeats the purpose.

That said, the carrots to get to Level 4 are worth it imho and plenty of people won't be at Level 4 yet, so for those folk I do see potential value in those carrots.

I thought Uber only delievered food?

    • +17

Don't forget people. They deliver people too without claiming the Jesus title.

      • +1

I am pretty sure thats called human trafficking.

        • +10

          Especially in peak hour.

      • +1

Jesus is a name, not a title.

    • -1

They’ll deliver anything so long as they can get some poor underpaid “contractor” to do it with no employee rights. Can’t wait for that POS company to finally die.

      https://youtu.be/xkrSQymRa3I

      • Are you me?

      • +1

Lol. They don't even employ people, you are self employed. You run an ABN.

If you don't like the platform, don't use it.

        • -2

You just said exactly what I said. That’s what a “contractor” is.

          • @PainToad: No - that's what a contractor is. Not a "contractor". You, operating as a private company, are contracted, by Uber, to, at your will, on your terms, deliver food on their behalf. You are welcome to cease this contract at your will were you not to find the terms reasonable. If a contractor finds these terms evil and exploitative, they can delete the damn app.

      • +4

Is actually not too bad for us as a driver, I only do Uber eat in Melbourne and in average I will get about $35per hour before tax and consumable in peak time. ~10$per order in my last financial year.

With the no contract and flexible time of work , don’t need to interact with customer, that model suitable for lots of people.

        • +3

So you work in the foodie mecca of the country and at peak time get $35… so that is essentially the best case scenario, it’s not like that in other parts of the country.

          • @lordezekiel: People should find other jobs if it isn't viable or worthwhile in their area.

    • Jb already has options using uber to deliver.

      • Yeah, its been about $11 from what I've seen, though thats from a store that is 5 min drive from me, so maybe its based on distance as it should be.

  • +2

$18.95 for me. Am I missing something?

    • clickbait

    • +3

A residence serviced by Uber with an EB Games nearby.

    • You live in Woop Woop?

  • +4

can't wait to pay $40 for a single funko pop delivered to my house

  • Like others above, I can't see a free Uber delivery option. I'm reasonably close to the city in Brisbane… and have used similar Uber via eCommerce services before.

Can anyone actually get this to work? Where are you?

edit: Looks like there is a minimum cart value. For a $36 item its not showing… but when I bump up the Qty to 2 for a $72 cart I can see free Uber delivery.

edit2: Are now I adjusted back to Qty 1 and can see free Uber delivery for the 1x $36 item. Something is borked… but I'm checking out now.

  • Only on metro areas mostly.

    • I'm in regional NSW. Works fine.

  • +1

I got it to work on the Xbox Series S. It was on Home Delivery and just had Auspost options, I changed to Click and Collect and then when I went back to Home Delivery it was only offering the free Uber option. There are cheaper items that say it's available. Outer West Melbourne, we have an EB nearby.

Only problem is I can't think of anything to buy from them.

  • I'm assuming it will be free delivery if there is a store within a few km's of you and they have stock of the item you want?

    • I think it's this. I am in Geelong with a store about 7 minutes away and it's given me free Uber.

  • +2

I’d rather see a decent discount than this.
If their BF sale is $57 for a $49 game that I can either pick up at JB or have it delivered next day at Amazon, Uber delivery is unlikely to win my business.

  • +4

While I have no interest for this….

I'll give credit where it's due.

EB atleast branches out, looks for ways to improve their business, adding things like this, the zing/Collectable stuff, instead of just dying as Digital kicks in…. As opposed to your typical Aussie Businesses (cough HN) just whinging and moaning about Amazon and the like.

So many Aussie Businesses could learn from this.

    • +1

I mean EB games is owned by the largest video game retailer on the planet, it’s not exactly your average “Aussie business”

      • +1

Doesn't matter. They were facing extinction.

        They adapted.

        That's the point.

I'm sure Blockbuster was the biggest video rental business in the world? Kodak likewise…. How'd they fare?

You don't adapt to the changing market, you go under. No sympathy for me. You gotta offer a point of difference. A quality service etc etc.

      • Can you define "largest video game retailer on the planet"? By number of B&M stores you mean?

I'm originally from Chicago. I can't recall the last time I had bought a video game from Electronic Boutique/GameStop before moving to Australia in 2019 and it was certainly not the go to place for video games for people around me.

        • Gamestop owns EB Games, depatment stores arent exactly video game retailers as it isnt their core business although you could likely argue some of them have more game sales volume overall, I've never checked stats

  • +7

Wow… 17 minutes from order online to delivered at my door. Damn.

    • +2

That's impressive. Drug dealers would struggle to beat that.

      • +1

Imagine if your pizza came that fast? EB are in the wrong business.

        • +1

On the cusp of a collab to get Mario Party and a pizza delivered all in one go.

EB Uber deliveries could really fill the gap for non delivery day weekends too.

    • That's incredibly good.

  • +1

I can order a Lego Minifig blind bag for $7 delivered via Uber.
    It feels wrong but still…

  • It's not quite sitewide. Would've jumped on this but heaps of Black Friday sale items are marked "Purchase in store only"
Looks like only the Black Friday items that you click through from the Uber deliveries banner are eligible.

  • +2

Lets see how many uber drivers gonna run away with the games

    • In an unregulated gig economy, it wouldn't surprise me.

    • +1

Don't know what they would use them for…. most working 7 days, 12 hours. :(

    • 0

  • -2

    Lame

  • I just ordered a packet of Pokémon cards (not on sale) because it gave me the option to. I didn't think it was going to work but I was curious as hell. They're on the way. Now I feel bad so I might buy something else.

  • how is EB getting away with asking $84 for a pre-owned copy of BOTW, while Big W is selling it for $69 new (normal price $79..)

    • People will pay it. I've seen many a clueless parent lining up to pay RRP not knowing about price matching.

I imagine tool enthusiasts scoff at those who don't know to use "beat it by 10%" at Bunnings too, if they just knew more about prices.

      • To be fair, and I say this from experience, most parents don't care about paying a ten or twen overs…. just want to get their plastic nothing and get the hell out of there.

        • Oh I get that, can't put a price on a happy kid and price hunting isn't something everyone has time for.

  • -2

Lazy bastards….go to the store and get some fresh air whilst you are at it, there is a world out there :P

    • +2

See, I first thought this too but we're forgetting about the disabled and those with mental health problems.
      Everyone else, absolutely.

      • +2

        True, them be exempt :)

    • +2

"A World Out There"? Is that on Quest or PSVR2?

    • And risk getting Legionnaires' disease and Covid at the same time? Twice the fun of regular pneumonia. ;-)

Anyway, I thought we played video games to escape the "world out there".

  • Bought yesterday. Still waiting :(

  • Trying to compete with JB.. ordered via JB and delivery driver realised I lived 40 mins away due to traffic, cancelled delivery.

Would have cost him more in fuel than he would have made on the trip.

Went to store and 2 iPhones also were never returned to store by delivery drivers, instant payday.

  • Uber Delivery is still free as of time of my comment.

I tried it today and it worked quite well!

  • I took advantage of this and ordered an Xbox Controller charger and I was shocked I got the item in under 15 minutes (And because I live like 5-10 minutes away from an EB Games lol).

In the past when it was Drive Yello as their preferred same day delivery service it would take hours to a day to get the items I ordered even tho I selected "Same day delivery".

I hope they keep this Uber service around as it's a far better option. I even notice JB HI FI went down the same road too and is using Uber as a same day delivery provider too (Tho it's $10 on there).

I wonder how long this will remain free? I was paying $14.95 when it was Drive Yello so I'm curious.

    • I wonder how long this will remain free?

According to email that was just sent out, ends 8th December.
