Just an FYI to a probably small niche… "Automatic new label recognition function" = You have to buy a DYMO branded label - if you are getting them from any other supplier with custom preprints etc these will not work like they did in the 4 series.

    • Bugger!

Thanks.. cancelled my order due to this.

Yup! I've just been watching this video and decided it ain't worth it.

  • Lots of 1/5 reviews for the 5XL, w proprietary paper it’s hard to recommend even at this price

  • DYMO branded label only is a way to lose hundreds of sales. What a crapy sales decision.

    • It’s so expensive. And the generic paper is so much cheaper.. no wonder they’re desperate

  • What thermal printer do you guys recommend for printing Australia post shipping label?

    • I just grabbed a hotlabel A300, may be a bit expensive upfront for small time sellers but makes things easier than printing paper labels and sticking them down.

      • it looks like this one is new version of other hotlabel with 300dpi now. i might give it a try as well.

        • Yep I actually bought an S8 from Amazon but it wouldnt print cleanly, so I bought an A300 as well, compared the 2 and then refunded the S8.

    • I just bought a super cheap $100 one for eBay, works just fine for ozpost and sendle labels. At this price point they all use the same 203dpi printing head.

      • don't you need 300dpi for printing australia post label? otherwise the barcode can't be read.

        • Correct, but the AusPost barcode is now redundant. It's only there for legacy purposes.

The QR code which is on every shipping label is the primary means of scanning now.

          • @ash2000: yes the QR code is fine printed using 203dpi.
            which brand did you get?

            • @xtreme: It's a Deli. At the time it was about $80 on eBay at the time. Very plasticy, but works just fine.

Another option is this 300 dpi printer @$162. Whilst 300 dpi isn't required, there is no doubt it does look nice, and only $40 more than entry level 203dpi models.

    • Brother QL1100 then buy labels from ink station 5x 200 label rolls for $75 delivered

      • +1

Or 62$ delivered on eBay, they can provide a tax invoice (Brother DK11241 Label)

        • nice one will check it out, ink station post express for free which i like but saving 1c a label is also appealing

  • Compare the pair :

$63 for 220 6x4" genuine dymo labels (28 cents per label)

Generic roll of 6x4” labels from eBay including shipping $15 (3 cents per label). Even cheaper when you buy several rolls.

The generic rolls were compatible with the previous generation of dymo label printers.

  • These are best in the market, made to last ages. Back in stock $198, i will buy but already have Dymo.

    • See comments re proprietary labels, this is why I have 4xl’s held together with tape still in use.

      • Oh no, Bad decision by Dymo.
