Christmas - Real or Fake Christmas Tree

It’s getting close to setting the house up for Christmas and for the last few years I’ve used the same tree I won in a competition from Domain but I’ve been thinking of retiring the tree and starting to get a real Christmas tree. I would never make such a hasty decision without consulting the experts here, so I would like to know:
1) What is your tree of choice
2) Any specific reason for your choice
Thanks!

Edit - I have a dog who has a thing for chewing on the fake tree and has toppled it over trying to get the decorations, would this happen to a fake tree or would he not be as interested?

Fake as then I do not have to worry about:
    1) Smell
    2) Keep the water up to the cut trunk
    3) Pine leaves
    4) Disposal at the end and the cleanup of the needles left when you move it
    5) Breaking it before I get it setup (got to get it in the car and up the stairs etc etc)
    6) Getting it in the holder so it does not topple over

    • Your 1) reason is my best reasoning of having a real Christmas tree.
and the last reason would be the price, disposing and cleaning it up after, as those dry Christmas leaves aren't vacuum friendly.

Fake. It’s Australia not some snow filled white Christmas country.

  • Always had a real xmas tree growing up. Wife says no.

    • Why does she say no?

we had a live one in a pot. Put it outside in a hole (i.e. pot in the hole) for 10 months. Bring it indoors near a window for the Christmas month, then under cover/part shade outside for a month to get it ready for the heat of Feb/Mar
They smell good and don't drop much when alive
But yeah, we have a fake now

Christmas - Real or Fake Christmas Tree

If you never had a real Christmas tree, give it a try at least once in your life. The best thing is smell. Gives you chrismessy smell.

  • Fake all the way. Wouldn't feel like christmas if it was a real one.

  • We usually do fake but mix in a real one every now and again

The hassle is it dying and leaving mess everywhere plus insects. Hit them with surface spray before you bring it inside

Real. Always had real growing up, would go out into the bush and find them (looking back on photos we kids sure picked some shockers) but now grab one from the local scouts. Is a pain in the a55 to get it up (itchy from the needles) but the mizzo loves the real tree too. Tried to joke this year we would get a fake one given new baby etc, look on her face was worth it lol

      That's what she (he?) said

      • No mention of the itchiness..

  • I used to get real, ordered in advance from some place out in Windsor, until one year when it arrived with complimentary nest of red backs :(

Thanks OzB! Think I will stick to a fake tree for the time being :)
