Bought Collector Action Figure from eBay Box Scratched up

I bought (not from popcultcha, just using them to show the figure) this Jason Vorhees (but from a random eBay seller) as a Christmas gift for a friend who is a collector and a big fan of Jason Voorhees movies. Part of the attraction is the cool display packaging with a 3D effect on the cover.

Unfortunately, it arrived with deep scratches all over the front. I contacted the seller, sent through pics (hard to see the scratches in photos but they are easily visible in person and some rather deep) and they said "All box are in similar condition. They all packed in one single box, hard to prevent the scratch on the box." The listing doesn't state damage to the packaging and in fact states "deluxe" packaging….

I don't know if it's BS or I should just accept it. I don't want my friend to be disappointed…

Anyone have experience buying action figures from eBay? Is it pretty common for them to arrive with packaging scratched up?

This is the first time for me and it's pretty disappointing so far.

If you can find a replacement in better condition for same price, i would cancel and ask for refund. Otherwise use your own digression. I sell collectables on my ebay account alot and make sure they are handle with the upmost care and packaged correctly. Afterall they are collectables..

    • I used the $20 eBay plus sign up voucher, I don't think you get them back?
It sucks, I wouldn't have bought it if the listing stated the cover was scratched up.

      • If you have Ebay Plus, it should be okay to Return it at least..

      • Chat with them and they'll likely give you another one if you tell them the story.

        • I did, they said "All box are in similar condition. They all packed in one single box, hard to prevent the scratch on the box."

    • Otherwise use your own digression

I think you mean "use your own digestion"

  • Ah, eBay. Never ceases to surprise.

    • Yeah, I'm always hesitant these days. Almost every purchase has some kind of issue whether big or small.

  • Just open an INAD case with eBay and return the product for a full refund

    • Will I lose the $20 eBay Plus sign up voucher though?

      • best you give them a call

      • Pretty sure you will, but you could try eBay customer service and see if they'll hook you up with another

You're just lucky it's a readily available thing that you can return and rebuy. In my case with JB Hifi on a full price sold out item they felt the need to box cut up all the seals on the item for me. Cheery on top is they left the cut up stickers there to remind you they've mangled a collectors box.

    • wow that sucks!

I bought figures years ago from what I believe to be a "reputable" company called PopCultcha.
Figures that have a nice plastic window front to display without taking out of the box.
Every single figure I ordered arrived with the window scratched to shit which I found bewildering since they literally deal in collectors items. Needless to say I gave up that hobby and never ordered from them again…
The moral is, not every business take the care that you would expect. I mostly buy things in-store now if I am worried about the condition an item might arrive in…

  • Im surprised cause i love popcultcha, there point accumulation making me spend more than i need on collectables haha and always packaged well.

    • It's not from popcultcha, I used them to show the figure I got from an eBay seller, as I didn't want to bad mouth them before a resolution was sorted. I should have made that clearer, sorry.

  • Just return it, then buy it from your link?
