Where to Buy a TV Screen Protector - Request

I just bought a Sony XR75X90K, and am looking for a screen protector as I have 3 young kids.

I've found one shipped from Turkey for $630 (including $130~ postage, but has 8% cashback)
https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/1082518387/tv-screen-protect…

But effectively my search has only come up with sold out, a film product that I am not after, or not in Australia.

Has anyone bought one in Australia that they have been happy with, or have any buyers tips? Appreciate any feedback

Have had 2 young kids, now old enough not to worry about, and no need for a screen protector…

It's not about bubble wrapping every item in the house.

I think bundling a brand new 75 inch TV in with every item in the house is a bit of an oversimplification.

What I'm hearing is "don't buy nice things while you have kids". Unfortunately too late for me now

      • Not sure how you're hearing that. Many flat screen TV's survive kids, but it comes down to the parenting

Survive yes but not unscarred - I had a brand new (as in less than a week old) 65" get deep lines etched into the screen using the spinning steel hub of a pocket battery fan the then 2 year old got at a fete. This feat was done in less than 20 seconds while I bought groceries inside from the car, TV still worked fine but looked a bit ugly in direct sunlight / while off.

Less than 12 months later he managed to fill the oneconnect (remote IO / tuner) box of the other 75" with carpet cleaner as he snuck off with it while I was using the carpet cleaner to clean up a spill and sprayed it all over the tv unit thinking it was spray & wipe and he was helping to clean. He tried to wipe it off and ended up pushing the big puddle he sprayed off the back of the TV unit and all over / in the box mounted to the back of the tv unit. A few hours of scrubbing the bare board with a toothbrush and 99% ethanol managed to clean it off and coax it back to life and its still running today. Those boxes are expensive to replace…

Best suggestion I can come up with is wall mounting it above toddler height

          • @baronorder: Yet mine are now 8 and 10 and my TV's are perfectly fine…

            • @spackbace: And I have a small person who'd be more than happy to rectify that situation if given the chance…

              • @baronorder: when I was 5 me and my older sister used to literally play basketball with a hoop and everything in the same 4 by 3 room as the TV. Nothing every happened to anything if I remember correctly expect breaking her hand me down toys. I'd like to say it was a 30 inch tv maybe probably a 40 inch if you count the huge bezels I guess. As a 20 year old we now play cricket in the living room. Yet to break a TV

            • @spackbace: Well lucky you. I'm sure the Perfect Parent Trophy that was clearly on its way to you just got lost in the mail…

Agreed, I've had TVs and children, no broken TVs. Amazing

When the screen protector is more expensive than my TV.

Cheaper to just teach the kids to not throw stuff at the TV.

    Naw,

Do not buy that, get one of the perspex ones like they use at the cash registers that has some overhang on the top for sitting on the TV/ some other secure attachment

Or physically barrier around/below the TV

    • I was also looking for a spiked barricade as you suggested. Wife wasn't keen on it though

Could you link a pic of the Perspex you are suggesting. Can't quite imagine it

      • Would think something like this:

        https://tvscreenprotectors.com.au/product/63-65-inch-tv-scre…

But it cant be that hard to drill some holes melt/fold a 75" piece, cos that is looking pricey

        • +1

          Yeah DIY project incoming methinks.
Will update here if/when it occurs

We had one of these on our 55" TV for years (our kids are 12 and 14 now, so it was a while ago), after our 40" TV ended up dying in spectacular fashion after an object made firm contact with the centre of it the screen.

To anyone thinking you can parent kids (especially young ones) every second 24/7, you're off your tree. And if you think that young kids comprehend the likely outcome of doing something like throwing a heavy toy, I've got a bridge to sell you, it's a real bargain.

@hudrob: I have been surprised at the mild passive aggressive backlash about wanting a screen protector.

I'll keep an eye out if similar comments are made around phone cases, helmets, or other precautionary purchases.

      How about a moat?

      • With dragons

    Home content insurance

  • It comes in the box with one, just don't remove it …

Put it back in the box when you have finished watching.

Go to your local sign maker with the dimensions of the TV.

Ask them to make you a piece of 3mm anti-reflective/anti-glare Perspex or Plexiglas with 90 degree bend at the top leading to a 10mm "lip". Some good quality double sided tape on that lip will secure it to the top of your TV.

A couple I knew did exactly this - their son has autism and successfully destroyed 3 TVs in 2 years before they discovered a local business that made to measure.
They just looked up local perspex/polycarbonate suppliers.
Pretty sure it worked out to about $150 for a 65 inch TV.

  • Put the Sony in your bedroom and get a CRT for the living room.

After my plasma was smashed by a wayward hotwheels car. I drew a design and had a local plastic mob fold one up out of anti-glare 3mm acrylic for the replacement tv. (Lucky we added accidental damage to the contents insurance when the little tacker was mobile) it wasn't cheap though, about $265 for 55inch tv back 2016.

    • Thanks for sharing
Any thoughts or learnings on the material/design you used? And how it performed both from a protection and from a viewing perspective since?

  • I've found one shipped from Turkey for $630

How much do you think insurance would cost you?

    • I've been playing around with my excess to determine this.

Insurance probably better for total loss
      Protector better for smaller damage
Insurance better for getting a brand new replacement
Protector better for avoiding hassle of replacing TV

      I.e. Both viable paths

  • Amazon has things like this but are still expensive. I ordered some anti glare ones recently, which I have yet to put on my 2 smaller tv’s, but am having trouble getting my head around paying around $500 for another, for my 85” tv. Astronomical prices 😒

    • Let me know what you think after you apply them to the smaller TVs. I looked at them, and wasn't so keen on the film approach.
