Sugru is like a cross between silicone and plasticine, that sets to be like solid rubber. Price has dropped 23% at Amazon, now at the lowest price according to CamelX3 history: https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B089WJ221N

Edit: black has increased in price, so I've removed it from the deal.

The link to the right is for three packs of white Sugru. The grey and black varieties can be selected from that page. There's also a red, blue and yellow variety pack listed for $1 cheaper, at $8.99.

Sugru is excellent for repairing things, or for modifying things. My mum has a medical emergency pendant and kept accidentally pressing the alarm button when she leaned on things, so I added a ring of sugru around the button and it hasn't been accidentally activated since (the button still works fine, in case you're wondering). I've also used it on a dishwasher door that has sharp corners, to cover the sharp corners and be much less likely to cause injury.

Sugru takes about 24 hours to cure for a thin layer, longer for thick sections. Once it has set, it's about as hard as the rubber feet on household items. It's actually a mixture of (mostly) silicone and talc, and it seems to stick to anything that silicone will stick to. Once you've opened a pack it will start to set, so queue up a few repairs if you don't think you'll use a full pack on a single repair. This deal is a 3-pack of Sugru. Each pack contains a lump of Sugru with roughly the same volume as a sugar cube.

Sugru goes off with time, even when unopened, lasting about a year from the date it was manufactured. Wikipedia says it ages three times slower if you keep it in the refrigerator: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugru

This stuff is great, have used it to repair laptop cables and worked perfectly.

I had some in the past, never used and then gave them away when moving countries. I was always worried about wasting them so was waiting for the perfect moment or project to use them. At this price i might experiment a bit with them

If it's silicone and talc can you create your own diy style?

    • Yeah I've made a similar thing with silicone and corn flour before. Not sure if that would go bad over time though so talc is probably better if you have it

      • Yeah they go bad over time. Mine expired and they set inside the packaging, so become useless.

    • Talc isn't as easy to find as it used to be. Baby powder used to be talc, but not any more, as talc was found to have tiny amounts of asbestos contamination.

Crumbled/crushed gyprock might be worth trying.

If people are not fussed about colours, Bunnings sell kintsuglue 3 pack in white or black for $8.65. It's very similar to sugru.

    • Have you seen a list of the ingredients in kintsuglue? I have just been looking to compare, but I can't find one. Even the MSDS only lists a tiny percentage of the ingredients.
