  what happened to the good old days when you bought the book an did exam at the dive shop ….seems not just universities wanting to make money by elearning…..

  do you need to do the elearning to get padi ticket or can you sit exam for theory and then do practical at dive shop ?

    You can certainly still do that! All dice shops offer it, but you won’t get the 20% off.

  Did all mine at the dive shop and in the water as we went alone one of the best things I done in life was very lucky as I got to dive all around the world lot of it free as I got a friend into it who ended up becoming a dive master and used to teach around the world and I got to fly out and help him free best years of my life.

  That’s absurd price when it doesn’t cover gear hire or practical component, which is the real cost

  Outside summer ProDive in Sydney would do an entire open water course for $199 including everything. It’s not PADI, but it’s still recognised worldwide

    Dive shop will charge you the same price for the theory as well. Just without the 20% discount.
    Dive shops will charge you couple hundred less if you’ve already done the theory.

  Most dive shops include the theory with the practical doing theory separately won't reduce the price enough to justify doing it separately even with a 20% discount.

    Fair enough. "Most dive shops" is a big call. Glad the two dive shops I've trained with charge a lower price for just providing the practical and allowing students to do the theory online prior.
