    Lol
Imagine paying this much and getting a hardlex glass

    • GMT movement.

      • Yep that accounts for around $70 of the price

Still a fair bit of fat in there to put a sapphire glass considering it'd cost something like $20

SSK001 GMT showing as Sold Out for me.
Or is that just the Brisbane store?

The orange one is available but I think thats been achievable at this price for a while from different places.

    • The one in stock sold shortly after posting, I'll update this post.

At this price you get a lot of features and obviously some compromises ie hardlex, no jump hour, 100M water resistance but at the end of the day you only get those better features if you spend a lot more money.

Seiko have a real winner on their hands with this watch.

  • I'm pretty new to scuba (just completed my open water last weekend). Why would a diver want a watch like this (that's not rhetorical, I actually want to know)? Seems disproportionately expensive to the rest of the kit.

    • I'm not a diver so it's hard for me to answer. I'll quote this from Seiko though:

There are countless products labelled as a diver’s watch around the world but only a negligible number of these timepieces are functional in professional environments.

What is a true diver’s watch?
From the introduction in 1965 as Japan’s first diver’s watch, the engineers never stopped to innovate. The trust this watch has gained goes beyond the borders of Japan and into the world. As a result, Seiko facilitated the establishment of the standard for diver’s watches in International Standard Organization (ISO), and Japan Industrial Standards (JIS). As for the ISO, Seiko lobbied the organization to amend the standard to match the actual use of diver’s watches in the deep sea. In 1996, ISO6425 with annex, about diver’s watches for mixed gas diving, was issued.

And link you their history of manufacturing divers watches the above quote comes from (I just learnt a lot reading this, thanks :) https://www.seikowatches.com/us-en/products/prospex/special/…

Also Seiko Divers watches do come in versions that sacrifice features to keep cost down :)

      For example https://watsonsjewellers.com.au/products/seiko-prospex-diver…

    • No, forget about this. Get a proper dive computer, or better take one they give you when you rent equipment.

  • Operative words when you're searching are "Divers Watch" as this designates a specific standard….
