Tractive GPS DOG 4. Dog Tracker. Always know where your dog is. Keep them fit with Activity Monitoring. Unlimited range

Seems to be a good deal, unsure if it's been cheaper or not.
Available in Beige and black/white(pictures look more like blue/white)

What is strange is that there is another product on Amazon (unsure if i can post link in description) which looks identical selling for $35 but says original price is $41.57 which has me very confused as normal price should be $79.

Can possibly price match at JB HI FI

Note: This product uses a in-built sim and therefore subscription is required. $7 per month for 2 years; $10 a month yearly or $16 monthly.

Price History at C CamelCamelCamel.

… got an airtag on my dog.

    • +2

I just attached a spare iphone on mine.

      • saint bernard?

      • Do you call yours dan?

        • +1

No, she's loved by everybody she meets and doesn't steal public money.

  • -1

For anybody with an iPhone, why would they use this instead of an AirTag?

    • +1

apparently it does a lot more than finding a location

I don't think anyone really needs a fitness tracker for a dog. Gimmick at best.

        • I don't think you know what people who care about their family members want… these are very popular around the world.

          • @CauseNEffect: I bet in 2 years time you wont find 1 in 10 people who've bought this gimmick still using it.

            • @Nalar: What's your bet. They aren't a new release.. they a growing in popularity. Go read the features other than the gps bit, which are extensive and useful.

          • @CauseNEffect: I would never put this on a family member. Heck, I doubt I would even put it on a family dog

            • @dr: It goes on a collar.

              Perhaps your wifes necklace then?

              • @CauseNEffect: Where did you get an impression that I have a wife? Either as a hetero or same sex couple?

Maybe you do not make clear distinction between human beings and pets/animals, or maybe it is just your kink, each to their own…

                • @dr: Dogs/ cats are family members. Smart technology isn't for everyone, nothing kinky about it. You do you though.

                  • @CauseNEffect: I love my pets but they are not my family members. And I'm 100% sure that my father was not a dog, neither my mum was a bitch… but again each to their own.

                    • @dr: Most people who own pets that love them consider them family members.

They are often the center of a happy loving family atleast in eastern countries.

Heard of fur babies? Yeah thats the reason why..

      AirTag isn’t GPS.

      • -3

        It sort of is.

        • Not really, air tag is useless outside of heavily populated metro areas for this purpose.

          • @CauseNEffect:

air tag is useless outside of heavily populated metro areas

rubbish… as long as there are any people in range with an iphone, they work fine.

            • @jv: Ahh yes so many iphones close by in the outback and rural areas..

Rural is a whole nother kettle of fish.

Air tag won't do anything useful.

          • +1

@CauseNEffect: Not if your dog is carrying an iPhone.

This is the one OP mentioned at $35:

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Tractive-GPS-Tracker-Protective-Sl…

I have this one and the only difference between the two is this one is dark blue, a patch of red on the box and price from what I can see. I've not tried an Airtag so I don't know it's range and I think Airtags use Bluetooth whereas the Tractive uses Bluetooth/GSM/GPS so the range is unlimited. It also has other functions like setting a virtual fence.

  • Reviews indicate it needs charging daily if using 24/7, worth noting. :)

    • 24/7 would mean traveling without returning home. Its 3 days between charges for regular use of 2/3 hour walking per day..

    • +1

I get 7 - 10 days between charges out of mine, had it for year

Only really drains the battery when the pet is out, when at home it uses WiFi and goes into a power saving mode (our dog is out the house for ~2 hours a day for context)

      • I never let it run down to 0. So it gets charged well beforehand, 3 days is around the average.

Average daily walk time is 2.5 hours though…

        • That's strange, I have all the options on that help save battery at the expense of less frequent location polling - do you have any of these options enabled?

Other than that I'm not sure, I'll usually charge ours on the weekend and it'll be sitting at 10-20%

          • @Skeptiik: I have all the power saving options on. We also take her collar off at home.

Im sure it could do 5 days of 2 hours max if run to 0.

We just dont take the risk as the walk wont be counted, ruining her activity stresk minutes. Ha

            • @CauseNEffect: Gotta get that dopamine rush seeing your dog as #1 in the local leaderboards ;)

              • @Skeptiik: Haha unfortunately 1 local dog seems to be out 14 hours a day..

Were happy with top 10 or number 1 of breed. :).. it does get competitive though, hahaha.

                • @CauseNEffect: Probably a working dog, we have a border collie so no chance to get anywhere respectable in the breed category :'(

  • +2

Can recommend. Had ours for 2 years and it works well.
Also, if you have the Pro (?) subscription, they will replace your tag (only pay S&H) if you your dog loses it.
I know, it's a GPS tracker, how can it get lost? We just have a very clever dog.

    • Only can be lost if you lose it on very low battery. Difficult to do but im sure its been done.

    • We just have a very clever dog.

      Then they shouldn't need this.
