Back in stock, this time through Amazon US instead of Amazon UK, not an all time low but still a good value proposition for those looking for a top performing SSD. The heatsink model is compatible with PS5. PCIe 4.0 is required to take full advantage of the speeds.

Note the delays on delivery times. It seems like a lot of the internationally-stocked SSDs from Amazon at the moment that have a delivery time around mid-to-late December or early January.

No heatsink $286.91 - https://www.amazon.com.au/Western-Digital-Black-SN850X-NVMe/…
Heatsink $307.99 - https://www.amazon.com.au/Western-Digital-Black-Factor-WDS20…

    This or Samsung 980pro?

    • probably samsung, a bit concern about WD quality control, need to return my older gen sd850 after 4 months due to a fata S.M.A.R.T error

Mark Cerny chose this (non x version) for his Ps5

The SN850X is faster from my understanding. Samsung brought out the 990 Pro to compete with this model.

Will we ever see local stock SSDs reach these levels?

Doubt it — I considered it just to be able to get something sooner but most are $400+ for an equivalent model.

They're a bit of a wash - I've had to return 90% of the Samsung pro series drives we've put into production over the years, only one was a total drive failure, all the others have been a single NAND cell going wiggly and the drive throwing random data corruption errors. Haven't purchased a Samsung drive in a couple of years as a result, so they may have picked up their game shrugs

I'm not a Samsung hater - we used Samsung RDIMMs in servers for many years without a single fault. But consumer-grade NAND is very tough to get right.

  • My 2tb from UK comes in today. Lets hope it's not 1tb or an empty box.

    • My previous order that came from Amazon UK was the correct drive and size. I know some people have had issues in the past though, I think there must have been something going on at the warehouse for that period

    • How long did it take? Not a fan of the month wait

      • I ordered on 18/11.

        • Maybe the date is worse estimation then

    • Received mine last week. It was a 2TB in a sealed box. Happy!

  • Not a bad price, umm tempting 🤔
