Denon AVC-X3800H 9.4 Channel 8K AV Amplifier $2399 Delivered @ Clef Hi-Fi

300

This is the new model that has been released with HDMI 2.1 on all of the inputs instead of just one, some new processing capabilities and a couple of new formats and future room correction add-on ability.

Reviews have not been as positive on this as the X3700h, but it is important to note that all current models you buy on clearance will have the same decreased noise performance that the new model is criticised for on Audio Science Reviews, and that the original models with the better chipsets had faulty HDMI 2.1.

I have been checking prices on this since launch and it has been pretty steady at RRP. 20% is a massive discount on such a new product.

The outgoing X3700h has also just tipped under $2k at other stores. I was going to buy that today, but at $400 difference instead of $1k more, I bought the new model using this to price match.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2022

Great price..i thought i'd done well at $2530 a few weeks ago

Dont see why you got negged. Úpvote to correct.

  • I have the 3700H, great amp! The HDMI 2.1 issues were fixed, you can check your serial number. https://www.avforums.com/news/denon-and-marantz-avrs-made-af…

    • Yeah I was about to buy the 3700h today until I saw this deal. The extra HDMI2.1 ports are my main reasons for wanting the new one, but any more than this price difference (20% - $400) and I would've happily had the old one.

When the 2.1 issues were fixed they also downgraded the audio performance (SINAD performance) which is what some of the reviews complain about with the new model. Just pointing out that it is the same audio performance as the x3700h that has been sold since the fix, just worse than the original. (Whether anybody can actually hear the difference is another matter all together).

Ah I wasn't aware of that. Sounds brilliant to me. Agreed sometimes measurements don't reflect what the ears can hear

Is this close to the best amp for proper 5.1.2 speaker setup watching UHD blu-ray?

    • "Best" depends on your budget and many other factors. But yes a 3700H or 3800H will be great!

    • There are a lot of much cheaper options to consider if you want 5.1.2 (because you only need a 7.1 receiver). I had already decided on 5.1.4 and this is pretty much entry level (but very good) for that.

      • I just got an 83" OLED - what would you suggest for a 5.1.2 capable AVR with HDMI 2.1?
Want DTS-X & Dolby Atmos processing.

If you're happy spending this price, go this amp, extra 2 channels for future upgrading is very nice.

That said, if you're in Perth, and only want a 5.2.2 amp, you can buy this and I'll happily swap you for my Denon 2200 hehe.

This is a cracker amp though, top of my list, but got the 2200 for a couple hundred few months ago, so no need to upgrade for me for the monies.

@teereb: If you're not in Perth and in Melbourne, you can buy this one and I'll joyously trade you my Yamaha RX-V6A which will do 5.2.2 splendidly!

  • I'm looking for a new receiver to replace an old 10 year old Onkyo receiver (need to warm up before the DSP board turns on).
I don't think I want to use another Onkyo ever again.

    It's for a 7.1 4K setup…
Are Denon the best out of the other brands? What about yamaha, marantz, pioneer, sony etc?

    • Marantz receivers are rebadged Denon (same company) the new Cinema 50 is the equivalent of this (and also on special).

Yamaha is good, but you can't get 9 channels of amplification (for a 5.1 plus 4 atmos speakers) for under ~$3500, and performance isn't necessarily any better. Anecdotally I feel Yamaha may be slightly more reliable, but I wouldn't pay extra for it.

Pioneer is part of Onkyo now.

and Sony aren't really playing in this space. Other options are Anthem, NAD etc

      • If Marantz are rebaged Denon then why is the Cinema 50 so much more expensive $3,700.00?

  • Any recommendations for an integrated amp for a 2.1 setup? Ideally to be used with LS50's?

    • Honestly check out gumtree for a second hand amp, save you hundreds. That said, a good 2 channel amp will run you maybe $500 +

    • +1

I'd suggest find a few local AV stores with LS50s and some amps and listen with some of your favourite songs, and pick the one you like best

  • Wow, good buy and had considered this for 7.4.4 setup with external amp but will save up for Anthem mx1140.

11 channel processing bang for buck right here.

I bought a RX-V6A and feel horribly cheated by it with the half bitrate HDMI 2.1 and would love to ditch it.. Are there any cheapish HDMI 2.1 receivers out there for 5.1?

  • +1

This seems to have a great review on AV forums:
    https://www.avforums.com/reviews/denon-avc-x3800h-av-receive…

  • This is an excellent price on such a new receiver. To upgrade the Marantz SR5014 or not… hmm…

  • Posted in the other deal as well, but have been looking at the Onkyo NR7100. Anyone able to share any opinions on which way to go please.

Coming from a 12 year old Denon, .4 Atmos would be nice (so 9 channel) and Dirac is seeming amazing

    • Have a look at this guys channel. This link is directly to the NR7100 but he has done reviews on the RZ50 and the Denons, Yamahas etc.. I find his reviews pretty good and he has a long background in the industry. Plus he doesnt waffle on about esoteric rubbish.

  • Reviews have not been as positive on this as the X3700h

All the reviews I’ve seen have been very positive? The ASR review arguing about inaudible differences is noteworthy (and disappointing), but not indicative of the overall reception.

    • +1

When the X3700h was released it was basically heralded a giant-killer with better performance than amplifiers many times its price. In comparison, this one is just a good amplifier. It is more expensive than before, with less stand out features than the 3700h had at launch, and the ASR results obviously.

It is worth noting that a decent number of the glowing positive reviews I have read have been factually inaccurate around the abilities of the new model vs the X3700h, so I have widely ignored those as well.

I'm not arguing it is a good model though - I just ordered one.

  • Nice that this has Auro3d as well. Nothing else I'm looking at had that I don't think.

  • What a bugger… has now expired :(
