Denon AVC-X3700H 9.2 Channel 8K AV Amplifier $1994 Delivered @ WestCoast Hifi

200

I just posted a deal for the new Denon X3800h for $2399 delivered. This is the old clearance model, and for many people this is even better value.

Important thing to note is only one of the inputs is HDMI 2.1, the rest are 2.0. Older UI. No Auro-3D and a couple of new formats. But has all the important bits.

Still an excellent value 9 channel receiver with 11 channels of processing.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2022

I'd rather have an amp with two true 4k, switchable outputs than one 8k :p Then i could have one amp driving the tv and pc simultaneously.

The only reason I have a denon right now is their marketing lied and implied they could do it. Well.. that and it was from back when you could buy receivers from amazon germany for $1000 instead of $2500 locally..

    • What exactly do you want to achieve? TV and PC playing the same outputs? Or two inputs and outputs running simultaneously?

This model has 3 HDMI outs, 2 of them are HDMI 2.1. I believe it can play one input to 2 outputs if they have matching resolution etc. Or two zones with 2 inputs driving 2 outputs.

  • Seems like a good deal to me.

I already have a Yamaha RX-V6A bought for $8XX thanks so to OzBargain. Just wondering if it’s worth upgrading to this one. I mainly watch Netflix and some 4K Remux ISOs and listen to music. I don’t expect to see any image quality improvement over the Yamaha, but not sure if I would notice any better audio for my Klipsch 7.1 system.

Is it better? Certainly. Could you hear it? Mayyyyybe. Is it worth upgrading if you have no actual requirements for it? Highly unlikely :P

    • +4

A good rule of thumb for receivers is “does this do everything I want it to right now?” If yes, do not upgrade.

If you’re not sure why you’d be spending $2000, do not spend $2000.

You'd be wasting your money - don't listen to anybody who says that the V6A does not sound good, it sounds fine.

BTW this is a great 9.1 AVR, but since you already have a 7.1 AVR, it would be stupid to upgrade.

It's like if you had a nintendo switch and thought eff it and bought a switch oled… you'd only do that if you didn't have a switch already.

      • Thanks everyone! Saved me $2000! Also love the Nintendo Switch analogy. I indeed have the normal version and always have to remind myself it’s not worth upgrading whenever there are new deals about the OLED one, given my Switch is hooked to the TV (through the Yamaha receiver mentioned above!) most of the time.

  • Any 2.1 amps on sale? I am after one to power two bookshelf speakers for my TV

  • Leaning towards an Onkyo NR7100 currently. Dirac seems like a game changer

    • +1

x3800h will have that next year (I just ordered the 3800), but you will have to pay for it.

NR7100 is on special today too at Clef and Audio Junction - great price @ $1699

      • $1590 at videopro

What is the x3800 getting me over the Onkyo? Or the reasons you picked the Demon?

The features are easy to compare, but the actual usability is hard.

        • Whoa. If I had seen that I might've changed my mind! Videopro is where I bought mine.

          • @AutomationGuy: The Denons are getting great reviews though.

My previous amp was a Denon which I didn't love but I think it was just too new in the HDMI era. Hand shake and stuff. Didn't have on screen display over HDMI at that stage

        • NR7100 has no pre-out, it's the main reason I took it off my shopping list last year (need to go up to the RZ50 or Integra DRX-3.4)

          • @Carrera1963: Ah yeah, that's right. I did consider the Integra but I thought the Denon looked better for the comparative prices.

          • @Carrera1963: Thanks. I don't think I'd ever use an external amplifier but good to know

Even know I've actually only got .2 Atmos in my ceiling and not sure if I can install another 2 anyway.

So a 7 channel amp would currently be enough, but none of them come with Dirac.

  • As much as I would love to get this, it's a bit out my budget. I don't suppose you would have any recommendations for something closer to 1k?

Mostly just watch Netflix/Plex and won't be getting any game consoles.

      Just go for the V6A

    • +2

This is the best to buy around 1k. Denon AVRX1700H 7.2ch 8K AV Receiver.

      https://www.videopro.com.au/product/denon-av-receiver-7-2-x-…

      • Thank you sir!

    • Don't buy a V6A. Garbage.

      • Why’s that? Because of HDMI 2.1 debacle?

        • Yes, because of the HDMI 2.1 problem with the v6a. Hdmi 2.1 is really important for receivers because they're not something you upgrade every 2 years. You need to future proof because all decent TVs now have hdmi 2.1 that can handle the full bandwidth for uncompressed 4k 120Hz to 144hz chroma 4.4.4,
          48gbs.
The last thing you want is a bottle neck bandwidth receiver. In my opinion.
I've been flipping av receivers for years, probably over 150 amps.

          • @mckayver: Do you have recommendation for receiver at similar price point that also has DAB & airplay? Looking to get one to use more as a stereo for book shelf speakers but would like to future proof it as well.

      • Please explain. I keep reading reviews on how bad the Denons sound…and how good the v6a sounds. Regardless of the HDMI stuff.

        • I really don't think you will notice the difference in sound quality between the two. Better speakers are probably more important, high sensitivity drivers.
Maybe if you're a full on audio file but those guys spend crazy money on a reciever and av gear.

Good price for a run-out model… I almost bought one for $2250 last christmas, but ended up with a 2nd-hand-but-new X6700H instead.

    • I tried to buy it around the middle of the year and was shopping around for ages and couldn't get any offers better than $2450, so I decided to wait for the new models.

  • +1

I'd love to know how much manufacturers of TV's and Receivers saved limiting item to 1 2.1 input…. Seems such a stupid move.

Reminds me of when they switched to 4k and my 2 Denons were non hdcp…. Marketing BS.

    • +1

Really dumb. So if you have an XSX, PS5 and PC hooked up, you can only use one to it's full potential? I didn't even know this was a thing.

Part of the reason I'm still using an old HDMI 2.0 LG C8 is because I can't be bothered getting a new AVR, looks like none would have suited by needs until recently anyway.

      • +1

        Yeah, I personally think it's intentional….

Get them buying the new model so their fancy new toy works at 4k/120 and make em upgrade again.

Just like they did with HDCP.

And you can argue WiFi routers do this as well when going early with a new feature when the standard isn't even agreed upon yet.

  • +1

Ripper price for both. I was almost about to pull the trigger a few months back on the 3700…considered waiting for the 3800. End up going with the RZ50

    • +1

How do you like the RZ50. Torn between the Integra DRX3.4, Denon 3700 or the Onkyo 7100 considering it's excellent price.

  • +1

Had it for a few months and only opened it on Saturday. Got stuck setting up Dirac live…..it’s more difficult than any guides suggest.
So have to wait for the weekend so I can spend more time on it.

New amps are like a new girlfriend. Takes a few weeks before you really get to know how she works. Lol
