These Freshwater Dwarf Shrimp are a great addition to your clean-up crew.
The Neocaridina family being one of the hardiest dwarf shrimp out there, they can survive temperatures as low as 15C up to 30C but thrive and breed readily between 21 and 26 Degrees.

Dwarf Shrimp are scavengers. They eat algae, bacteria and other microorganisms around the tank, and will never attack other live animals. They have a minimum bio-load and are a great addition to almost any tank's ecosystem!
Don't forget to check out our plants for combined postage and keeping the shrimp happy in transit!

Keeping with fish:
The general rule for all aquatic life is "if it fits in their mouth they will eat it." Unless you have specifically passive or vegetarian fish, shrimp may be eaten by any fish which is large enough to swallow one hole. Adult shrimp grow to 2cm in length, with juveniles being at least 1cm. Conversely, any smaller fish will live with them very happily. They may eat the baby shrimp if they breed, but if you have enough plant cover, usually enough survive to keep the colony going.

If you have any questions or problems feel free to ask!

  • This is a fairly weird Ozb post I'll have to say! But I'm sure there's people out there on the hunt for cheap shrimp.

I think your supposed to list the normal price so we know whether it's really a bargin or just marketing.

    • +2

Its $3 normally, though has been $2.50 for a while and going down again.

      • +3

Great, I'll grab a bagful to have with my Uncle Ben's tonight and save on the takeaway

        • +2

Probably one of the most expensive snacks you will have in your life then ;)

    • I do! I got some "mixed shrimp" and they all bred into these striped ghost shrimp lol.

      • Mixing breeds will mostly get you the natural state, which is what these are.

        • I have blue dreams and bloody marys in two other tanks… just waiting for some babies to throw into the main tank to get some colour

  • +1

    They make great pets…

    • I love them as well!

  • Do they live well with guppies ?

    • If you have places for them to hide, there isn't much problem. Guppies won't eat adults, so its just to let them hide when they are molting.

    • my guppies have always ignored them. but the fry do need hidey holes and bushes. they love moss balls and bushes.

  • How scary is this shrimp?

    • +12

Normally not very. Just keep the lid on during a full-moon. We haven't had a were-shrimp outbreak in a while, but these tend to have a stronger than normal connection with the supernatural.

  • Will adult shrimp be eaten by reticulate loaches? The loaches are about 50-60mm.

    • They should be alright.

    • loaches will snack on fry but if they have hiding spots then should only loose a few here and there, probably good for population control. the bigger shrimp should be fine.

  • My local guy sells them for $1 ea for his unwanted ones. But these are still a decent price.

    • +2

If you have local breeders buy from them. It isn't financially possible for us to sell at that price and ship, so we are for those who need them shipped. :)

  • How much per kg?

    • +3

About as much as your car probably.

  • +1

    Nice new era of ozbargain

  • how does this compare to some of my favourite shrimps?

Gulf Brown,Royal Reds, Gulf Whites, Alaskan Side Stripe, Florida Pink, Rock, Pamlico County White, or Mobile Bay White?

    • +2

Well, these are like the bargain bin shrimp, don't really compare to any of these ferrari's you're showing off here…

  • Would these be suitable for an outdoor pond?

    • +1

Depends on how cold it gets, but in general yes. As long as it doesn't get too close to freezing they should be fine.

  • Do these need a filter? Thinking because if they don’t, could just put them in the vase in use for the indoor plant being grown in water.

    • +2

Yes they do. The are more susceptable to Ammonia than fish are, so absolutely need a filter, or a very large tank.
