Bose QuietComfort 45 or Sony WH-1000XM4?

Could anyone tell me the difference about them? Beside the price, what brand will you choose?

I have both thanks to work issuing a set of XM4's to everyone for WFH.
I find the QC45's are more comfortable but tend to wear out the pads faster, the Sony's tend to to be a little better for noise cancellation and microphone quality on calls but fit tighter and are a little less comfortable for long durations. Either way there is very little between the two and you'd likely be very happy with either.

    lots of youtube explaining.

plus, for something that YOU wear, that is personal. other people head shape and preferences could be different. someone tell you A is better, maybe for you, B is better.
best is to TRY yourself in the store i saw jbhifi has them.

  • I have both - you really can't go wrong with either.

I tend to find that the QC45 are more comfortable, especially for long sessions as they have thicker earcups. I also find connection quality for the QC45 to be better as well, e.g. has better range, less drop-outs / connection issues.

The WH-1000XM4 has better sound quality (but not really noticeable unless doing an A/B comparison, both are fine for what they are). The big differentiator is that I find these to be less comfortable than the QC45 - the earcups are not as substantial, so my ears touch the speaker at the back of the earcups meaning it gets uncomfortable after extended use. However, not a big deal unless I'm wearing for hours (which is not often).

    • Thanks, I might grab QC45

  • I bought the Bose QC45's last week with the student deal for $289. Currently in the process of having them refunded.

The noise cancellation is great, they're super comfortable. But the sound quality is laughably bad. In my opinion, the difference is much larger than many commenters/reviews suggest.

Having bought XM4's for my gf's birthday, it's not even close. Tried to fix it in Bose's EQ settings, but it doesn't sound anywhere near as good as it should at that price point.

If you want to pay $300 for comfort and noise cancellation - go ahead and try them. They do a 30-day gauruntee where you can send them back.

Even at $289, I don't think it's worth it. Gonna pay the extra for XM4s or XM5s.

Super disappointed. Really wanted to like them.

Also have both, the QCs are more comfortable for extended durations of wear (3+ hours) personally, the Sony ones aren't uncomfortable, but it just doesn't feel as right as the QCs after the same 3+ hour duration.

Sound quality on the XMs were better, and noise cancelling was more than 'just better'.

I think JB Hi-Fi has these on display if you wanted to give them a try!

    • I am thinking what is the best price for QCs now.

  • Does anyone know if this deal on AliExpress is legit? Looks too good to be true - surely can't be real Bose QC45?

    • Edit: Just checked that they have a 59.8% positive feedback score. Yeah, definitely seems dodgy.
