      huge demand at this price?

      • +2

        Probably just limited quantity available.

Was my first pick but after doing more research again on the Samsung 870 EVO 4TB I think the 2400TBW endurance rating vs the 1000TBW on the Crucial MX500 4TB is steering me towards the Samsung now but my current pc still has 2 x Crucial MX500 2tb right now.

It's roughly 20% to 25% increase in pricing for almost 2.5 times longer lasting lifespan by going with the Samsung 870 EVO 4TB.

How long would it take you to even reach 1000TBW though? If it’s more than 10 years then I’d say both are practically the same.

      • That is true I just like having stuff last a long time when it comes to storage I guess.

But for majority of users yeah 1000TBW is more than enough.

I just feel better having longer lasting stuff and it is not that much for the extra endurance to me.

Knock on wood something else does not happen to it first.

That makes sense. Personally I'd also go for the 870 EVO if it's up to $30 more. 20%+ would be too much for me though.

    • 2400tbw but 5 year warranty..

      • yeah the 5 year warranty scares me.. i wonder what else degrades or wears in these ssd's that make the warranty so small

        • 5 year warranty for storage is the opposite of small - most devices just have 1/2/3 years.

Just need 36 of these and a really really fancy jbod controller. Finally a silent NAS.

    maybe another 7 years

    • +1

In 7 years you’ll be able to do it with two drives.

      • 7 years ago, the biggest mass-market drives were 4TB.

Today, the biggest mass-market drives are … still 4TB. There's very very few 8TB+ drives around !

  • Thanks OP.

This was OOS so I ended up going with the 4TB 870 EVO from Computer Alliance for $489, obviously a bit pricier but it did come with a Far Cry 6 code, so that's another $20-$30 or so of value. Not too bad, but not shocking value either.

Replacing an old 2TB WD Black that's starting to click.
