  • How does this compare to the scarlet solo bundle?

  • I found DJ City can be a bit slow in processing online orders.

Beyond the camera input, the Vocaster is a $100-$130 interface in terms of value, with a slightly higher noise level and gain level (60dB measured) than the best in that bracket. Tonal balance is ever so slightly boosted in the upper treble, as is typical of Focusrite gear.

The headphones are junk and tuned for vocal monitoring, and the mic is worth $60-$90 IMO. Mic also has handling issues should you wish to use it for stage performance.

Basically this isn't any better than your existing purchasing power, locks you into the Focusrite house sound, and is arguably a step down in mic quality than what your own $250 bundle could deliver you.

    • Hi. Thanks for your input. As someone new and looking for a podcast setup. What would you recommend? Thanks 👍

I would recommend not going overboard on the setup and instead focus on the content. :P

There are $30 dynamic XLR mics that sound solid, like the Behringer XM8500, but if you're after something that tries to be darker in the treble and mid-focused with a little extra on the low end for a smooth long-form listen, the Mackie EM-91c - not to be confused with the EM-91CU is a great budget option at $85-$95 that comes with its own XLR cable. It's a condenser microphone though, so if you've got multiple people miked up in the same room it's a no go, and it's generally considered for spoken word only in its use case.

Interface wise right now you've got the Behringer UMC202HD when it's around $100-$120, the M-Audio 192|4 when it's under $130, the Audient EVO 4 under $130, and the Focusrite Vocaster One at that same level.

In fact, here we go: EM-91C for $90, and the M-Audio unit is floating about for almost $130.
