Google Pixel 2 XL (6.0", 12.2MP, 128GB) Users

I am thinking to buy this phone due to my budget around $200 mark using this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/742436

I know this phone is 4+yrs old and will likely have not any software updates soon but do you see any concerns for using them in general for parents (battery, storage, camera are imp).

It was a great phone but now there are a lot of bargain phones new in the same price range that offer as good or better hardware specs these days.
The biggest concern would be battery unless it has been replaced as its very likely heading towards the end of usable life if its been daily driven and they are not the easiest / cheapest phones to service. The other is updates as you highlighted. You just need to make sure the user experience / clean android feeling is worth the risk of needing to pay for a new battery and doing without updates compared to buying a $200 new phone.

    • Thanks. So you think the battery draining (faster than normal) would be main concern for this Google Pixel 2 XL? Was that issue for this phone during early release?
On side note, do you recommend me any other phone in this range?

      • Batteries age with both time and use so less usable capacity is available thus less time between charges - at this point that battery is likely down pretty significantly on runtime compared to new. This can be helped by not charging to 100% and not discharging below 20% but even with careful management LIPO batteries have a finite lifetime and need to be replaced in time.
I really have not had enough experience with phones in this price range to be able to offer you a decent recommendation.

      • I had a 3XL which I sold for like $200
I had the phone replaced by Google due to battery not working properly around the 18 month mark then used it for another 6 months or so.

Can't imagine a 2XL still on its original battery

  • Go hear - read this thread from early in the year around best new phones that are <$500 - tey will be around $200 new and with warranty etc - buy one

Not worth it. Old phone - battery is likely degraded. Cough up a bit more money and better buy 6a if you want pixel. Or for parents just buy one of any new phone deals pop up for $200 on ozbargain.

  • It's still a good phone but battery degradation is an issue.
