$30 off Rides @ Placie (New Users Only)

691
MCQUEEN

Found a code to get $30 off your next ride. I believe it works for new users only. Exp of code is 28/2/23 when I put it into the app.

  • Please use the referral system. Don't ask or solicit codes.

    • To add your referral to the system, you must click the Edit button above and then Allow referees to contact me via Private Message. This is due to Placie constantly changing their referral links in the app.
    • To get a referral to sign up, hit the referral link above (link that says random), ask for a referral and press send. Do it multiple times so it sends PMs to various people.
  • Can I use a referral code plus this code as well? Or can I only use one?

    • Im not entirely sure on that one. I do know this code only applies to the first ride but unsure about referral code t&c.

You can add multiple codes into your account and select which to use so maybe add both but use this code first?

      • +1

Just tried. Did the referral process where I entered my phone number. Then signed up. Then immediately entered the MCQUEEN code. This took me to the promos page where both could be seen. Not sure exactly what will happen when I use it but both are in my account for now.

  • Has anyone used placie? Is it just to order uber

    • +2

I used it this morning. It just shows you different options for ride shares(as well as pt and walking/driving). You can order an uber, didi or ola etc through placie.

    • Used new user code to get from Sydney airport CBD last year and my girlfriend used it to get the other way.

  • They're still going?! good deal to get a free uber… but I can't understand how they're going to survive

    • Same i think id just book directly with uber or didi next time but good for a free ride..

Had to use rideshare alot to get to work a couple of months ago.
Had different apps and compared prices in the morning, different providers, and 5 minutes difference in booking time gave me fares ranging from $30 to $75

I think it can be quite useful to have one app that does the queries for me

Thanks OP! Scored $30 valid until end feb 2023. I’ve used it twice before too. Placie is pretty good but both rides the driver has asked where I want to go, so it can’t be integrated fully yet into all the different systems - Uber, cabs, etc.

  • is it fixed pricing from placie and can you spend less than $30?

    • Yes if it's less than $30 you'll be charged 0. Thats how it worked for me this morning.

  • Also when you do this, do you like need to order straight away or can you schedule it for the next day lets say?

    • I scheduled mine to be at a specific time so i dont see why not.

True story here, I booked a cab through placie and I had a young Indian international man as my driver from Ola who exploited me because I looked young by driving literary at 25km/hr. Had a smirk on his face. Made a complaint and was issued a refund.

Disappointed, I chose a different service other than Placie and was told the working conditions and diversity is really bad for Ola for example everyone there are Indians. Hence why drivers had to look for somewhere else where they feel accepted.

    • so placie isnt fixed fare?

      • No it isn't. Placie takes a portion of the car services that Placie provides. The car service Placie choose to elect is just disappointing. Fee can be expensive depending on the driver. If you get one who's an a-hole, then yeah it'd be more expensive. Inside story that not many people like hearing.

  • The reviews were pretty bad

  • Once you sign up and register does it need another verification code to order a ride..if anyone knows? have a spare sim i chucked into a new phone but wont carry that sim around with me.

    • Nah i only needed to verify once. Had the same situation as you. Only issue would be if you needed to call the driver?

      • Did you register and order a ride at the same instance? planning on letting it marinate on my phone for a week. Placie roulette!

        • I registered yesterday and ordered this morning. Didn't need to relog in or verify my phone number after that.

          • @RIPwallet: did you get charged as estimated? I saw some reviews about charging $20 to $30 more than estimated.

            • +1

@53459: My ride was fairly short and not much traffic this morning so at most $1-2 difference. I didn't pay much attention the the price difference as it was $0 anyways.

    • Sometimes the driver may call you to find your exact position or if its a busy street, ask you to go around the corner etc.

      • good point.

  • Thank you my good fella.

Thanks OP, signed up and got a welcome email saying "Get up to $20 off your first two rides with placie, use code FIRST 20", interested to see if that works also..

    • +1

Yup it does just go to Promos & Vouchers and type in FIRST20 got $10 off…

  • how do i add my referral link?
    thanks in advance

    • The referral is via pm only
So you have to reply once someone pms you asking for a link

      • To add your referral to the system, you must click the Edit button above and then Allow referees to contact me via Private Message. This is due to Placie constantly changing their referral links in the app.
  • The price didn’t change after applying promo code to me. ApplePay showed same charges, anyone had same issue?

    • +2

Yea as long as you select the promo code when placing the order it goes through. They charge a $10 fee as a place holder. Once i finish my ride my receipt deducted the amount of the code.

  • Fare says 'estimate', anyone knows how accurate is it given the final charge is from rider provider.
For instance, ride to airport from where I live shows 80 for Didi, but over a hundred for Uber and others. Will the estimate change to $100 once I arrived?

    • Id like to know if theres any fixed pricing or is everything estimates

    • +2

Yes - I had a $20 estimate in Brissy change to a $40 charge once I arrived at the destination.

They give no warning, your card just gets charged the extra. I complained A LOT and they finally gave me a $20 credit on my account so I could use them again and get overcharged another time :)

    • Can try using Wise/Revolut/Zip disposable cards to avoid being overcharged.

  • +1

Thanks, perfect timing as I need a rideshare tomorrow night _b

  • Does revolut work on this

    • +1

      why not.

  • This app is not available for any of your devices

  • +1

I like your username OP :)

    • +1

      Haha thank you
      Ozbargain makes me go broke!

  • +1

Now i just need another app to compare this app to other apps

  • +2

    Cheers OP! 🍻

    Also another $10 x2 code CHEER20

  • +2

Thanks OP. Just got a free Didi ride home from Sydney airport!

  • Hmm i will need SUV for 3 persons + 3 luggage. Seems no option to choose :(

    • +1

Could choose maxi taxi via the taxi options.

  • +2

Just took a $10 CBD to Melbourne airport ride in a Mercedes 😃

    • How did you happen to get the Mercedes? Was it just by coincidence that the cab happened to be Mercedes?

  • Hi Just wondering's seem to why I cant seem to book uber to my destination. Ola, Didi show but no uber. Any Ideas what I am doing wrong?

  • +1

No to worry I found Uber is not a Placie partner. All good I'll choose Didi.

  • Signed up and after using the FIRST20 code for my first ride, this promotion code grayed out and no longer valid for me. I think with all those promotion code for new users you could only use one.

    • +1

I signed up and used the referral first. I still have MCQUEEN, CHEER20 and FORK20. Though I never entered FIRST20.

  • I tried to use this morning but couldnt validate OTP :( saying the email already registered or sth? ended up taking a taxi instead which was on par to the estimated price minus $30 promo

    Legend! Worked for me

  • I'm receiving an error when entering my AU phone number
    It says:
Error: We do not support this country code:

I've selected +61 from the drop down list and tried entering my phone in the box as:
    40xxxxx
    040xxxx
    614xxxx

    but nothing works

    Any ideas?

Edit: Nvm, tried chrome and it worked (ff didn't)

    • Great to hear it worked for you on Chrome!!
