Expiry date now extended to 28/2/23

        • Thanks, post updated.

Asking for license number at sign-up. interesting.

    • +6

Every rideshare services like goget, flexi etc also do to confirm that you have a valid and not learners license

    • +12

They need to start getting the govt organisations to click to verify your license in a secure manner. Everyone ends up having PII everywhere and another Optus/Medibank saga every month.

  • Do they perform credit history check?

    • I dont think so, I signed up a year ago and I don't have any credit history and was easily approved

      • By entering your payment details you accept the Terms of use of the payment service provider Stripe.

        c. Validation and Underwriting:
You authorise us to retrieve information about you from our service providers, including credit and information bureaus. You acknowledge that this may include your name, addresses, credit history, and other data about you or your Representative

Just to confirm, Stripe itself does not have access to credit history, my business uses them for all card transactions - perhaps separately Popcar does a credit check.
Stripe is purely a payment gateway, much like using Paypal (but for businesses only for card transactions).

Signed up half a year ago, nothing from them on my credit reports

    • i used popcar a few months ago and it didnt show up in my credit history.

is this is like a car rental company where people share their cars? or a company that owns their cars and rent out?

    • +1

      They own the cars

      • just as expensive as the brand name car rental companies and not sure about their data security either

        • Car rental companies usually also offer unlimited km's also, not the 200 km limit these guys have.

          • @SimAus007: I've seen car rental companies have the 200km limit too… usually not for sedan, hatch or suvs but more for those bus or larger people movers

            • @Poor Ass: Ah right, I've only ever hired from Hertz and Budget and never had any limits on the vehicle types I've hired.

              • @SimAus007: after cover all car hire has become very expensive… especially popular holiday destinations like Cairns

                • @Poor Ass: I usually pay about $80/day in Melbourne (never paid for extra cover - lower excess).
Yeah, some of those places are expensive, however, Popcar doesn't exist in those places.
Tassie is expensive also, so I've never bothered hiring a car there because it's just too expensive.

          • +1

@SimAus007: Limit is for the first 200km you get for free. Any km that exceeds you pay the $0.40/km. Better than goget (120km) and flexi (100km).

          • @SimAus007: I have also seen car rental places that limit km per day then you pay per km. If this doesn't suite then find another service that is cheaper for you.

        • Not cheap but fuel is included in cost, more locations and less paperwork/hassle. Personally find it good for short trips.

          • @spamus: Fuel is included?????? serious?

ok so what happens when you run out… they take it off the bill if you need to top up?

Also stacks with their current $50/day van hire.

Toyota Hiace for 3 days for free, convenient for moving.

    • Or doing some airtasker errands!

    • Can I just ask how you did this?
You signed up got the $180 then switched to the van plan, is that right?

      • I signed up via the promo, then selected a van from the map and booked it. No plan changes etc.

  • Bah, no love for Queensland:(

Interesting, no cars in Melbourne CBD, Docklands, Southbank ~ apparently the best places for car sharing.

  • Damn, need to hire a car for a big family trip but they don’t have anything above 5 seats.

    • get 2!! :-D

  • So i live in greater Sydney and they only want people living in inner Sydney using their service… My application was rejected lol.

Thank you! Have to rent a car next month and this saved me some cash! Just signed up, verified my license and made the booking.

Just as an FYI for those people who don’t like answering calls from unknown numbers, Popcar do call you once you have undertaken the license verification in the app. They called me from the number 02 9532 3000. They asked how I found out about Popcar, if I’ve used car sharing services before and what my intentions were for using their cars. Hope this helps someone.

This was really helpful. Thank you!

      • +1

        Glad I could help!

Almost got caught out. When joining, click on the 'Join Now' in the banner rather than the 'Join Now' at the top right corner. Buttons look the same but have different links. If you're asked to cough up $25, you've clicked the wrong link. The correct sign-up page will have the $0 upfront with $180 credit

  • Does anybody know if the referral stacks as well? When I click a referral, I can see both but not sure if only one of the two would apply

    • +1

Both applies. You'll receive a $180 discount code when you join and $50 discount code after your first paid booking. (Note that discount codes are multi-use but only one can be used at a time.)

      • Thanks. So the person referred would sign up via the referral link, and then apply this promotion to their new account?

        • +1

The promotion is automatically applied if you use a referral link. (You should note the name of the referrer displayed at sign up just in case they ask you during the verification phone call.)

  • I have 100 credit from their promotion, couldn't use it. Pop car has a problem with how they manage their cars (or they intentionally moved cars booked with credit) .
Tried to use it twice, booked the day before, car shown in inner west. First time, next morning the car wasn't returned, still in Campbelltown, the second time, the car also wasn't returned, still in Chatwood. Ended up renting a Goget both time, more reliable.
