Anko 12 Inch Fill Light Stand $19 (Was $49) + Delivery ($0 C&C/In-Store) @ Kmart

340

This fill light is a great cheap key light, I have 2 of them set up for work video calls (you might need to turn down the brightness a bit though, the diffuser helps and it's not as harsh as some other cheap LED lights). It comes with a 360 deg. ball head (two actually) so you can mount it to any tripod (if the included one is too big for your desk). It looks like most stores still have stock available (or marked as low stock). This has 3 light modes so if you want to change from warm to cool light you can.

you might need to turn down the brightness

But what will your OF members think of that?

"tip more $ to increase brightness!" ? like it's a genius pay plus pay model.

  • How bright is it? Is it good as a soft box alternative?

    • I don't see why not, although I have no brightness measurement to reference. I use mine from a distance of about 1m as they sit behind my PC monitor. I find I have to turn the brightness down 5 or 6 steps at least (I think there are 9 brightness steps). I'd say you would have no problems returning this if it doesn't suit ….. pretty low risk.

      • uase your phone sensor and come back with lux or lumen readings.

      • You can use one of those photometer lux apps on your mobile to get a reading of the brightness.

    • It's quiet bright at the max setting. I had to reduce it for comfort. See my other notes below.

    • My opinion is a bit different from the other two comments here.

I have it set up to cast light across the room so about 2.5 to 3m and at Maximum brightness it just manages to do the job, but I thought I could want it to be a bit brighter. You can have it on full brightness and not have any problems staring into the centre of it so yeah I think it's on the weaker side.
I think it's rated at 5V/2A so equivalent of 10watts. But looks even a bit darker to me because the LED's are diffused I think.

Also have a bit of an issue with it being called a 12 inch Fill light, when the actual light area is only 10 inches in diameter. If it was a ring light it makes sense because the actual rim of the light is 12 inches, but yeah minor issue.

Will it do the job of a typical soft box? In my opinion no. The light is much narrower in the way it casts light. As I said above it's only 10 inches in diameter.
If you have it setup 1m away like OP though I think it will cast light wide enough.

Other opinions. Happy with the quality of the light stand. For $19 all up the stand could be a lot worse. It's stable if you make sure you have one of the foot's pointing in the direction you want to prevent it falling towards. Even at full height extension and the light on top facing down 45 degrees I can give it a few good nudges and it is steady no signs of falling or wobbles.

  • You use two of these for video calls? What's your setup like?

    • Bought one for a Ikea Detolf glass cabinet
      Very nice

  • Thanks. Need a fan to open an only fan account

If you are an over weight man. Dress up in one of them anime waifu characters guzzling down copious amounts of food and you be raking it in.

I also hear feet pics and videos are a massive kink for some.

So what I'm hearing is when you shop at fanonline.com.au you're really buying onlyfans?

Just a caution. Had one and returned it -
It doesn't have a remote and doesn't remember the last setting. Was a deal-breaker for me.

Other than that - the stand is really solid, great height extension. Light is nicely diffused.

    • This doesn't happen for me as I have them connected to power all the time (USB power board), but if you are disconnecting power then it does forget your light setting.

      • Bought the smaller $5 kmart ring light - also only stores setting if powered. (10 brightness & 3 white colour settings)
Used for subdued illumination of room & work / emergency lighting.

      • I had it connected to a usb hub. Blue light (freakily glowing in the dark 😁). But when turned on, it went right back to default. Perhaps a QA issue.

"It doesn't have a remote and doesn't remember the last setting. Was a deal-breaker for me."

Yeah I noticed there was no remote only after unboxing it as well.
I didn't realise it had no memory though. I use it at full brightness every time and that seems to be the default when you turn it on so I guess I didn't notice ha.

"the stand is really solid, great height extension."

Yup 100% agree. The stand was surprisingly solid. For $19 I thought it was worth it for the stand itself.

I recently bought this for streaming and it is definitely worth it at this price! The stand is sturdy and tall. I have my webcam on the top of my monitor so I have attached the light feature at the highest point on the stand. There are roughly 10 brightness settings on each colour and 3 different options for colours to cycle through. White (my favourite), blueish white and orange. It lights up my face in a subtle diffused way and doesn't take away from my gaming experience.
There is also a timer feature 2hr, 4hr and 8hr however I haven't used it yet.
The only thing I dislike is that the feet stands are very long, but it's not that much of a bother since it's under my table.
Fun fact, I have noticed this week since purchasing the light, I have increased my followers by double.

    • "There is also a timer feature 2hr, 4hr and 8hr however I haven't used it yet."

Timer is very useful for people who have a habit of being distracted and leaving things switched on. For those people they just need to make the habit of setting the timer function every time they power the light on.

  • Daughter bought this for audition takes, reckons it’s the Bomb

  • Some of you might be seeing something different.

This is a FILL light, not a Ring light. And it's not just a naming difference the photo makes it look like a Ring light but it's not.
The centre of the light is the actual light, it's solid and there is no hollow centre to put you phone etc.
