Average diesel price is $2.08 per litre. For my 150L 4WD that’s a saving of about $22.

Damm, Diesel is $2.39 here in Vic.
$2.55 Lt here on the mid-north coast nsw. And it's actually come down in price lmao!
What i don't get is (and please correct me if i'm wrong), diesel is a by-product of petrol. It's costing them less to process/refine, yet it's more than 98octane fuel. Why so much? Regular drivers of 4×4 and diesel engine sedans don't get the rebates that truck drivers get from the government yet pay more at the pump. Sh*t's crazy!I think traditionally diesel is a by product, but with fuel standards (sulphur, etc.) I think it ends up needing more refinement (and thus costs). But realistically, with supply/demand, they're just being more greedy and making more money.
The retail price of diesel shouldn't be anywhere near where it is at the moment - the average terminal gate price (wholesale at the refinery/storage) is sitting around $1.95/L (and has dropped about 10c in a week) but the retail price hasn't dropped as much.
The margin that most petrol stations around me is 34c/L. Diesel usually only has a 8-10c/L margin, and IME the retail price usually tracks the TGP fairly closely (especially when it's going up) but it seems like they've forgotten how to do that since the fuel excise ended 2 months ago.
