Choosing a Dishwasher - Any Recommendations

I'm in the market for a new dishwasher. Happy to pay for quality, would rather buy once, cry once.

Our current 5 year old Miele has failed with a F51 the F14 error. I've requested repair citing ACL, but doubtful they will come to the party. I also fear the repair will be too costly, and suspect replacement might be the best option.

My research has narrowed down my choice to Miele (despite the issue with our current unit), Bosch or LG (happy with our LG washing machine).

Looking for recommendations. Are the Choice reviews accurate and worth paying for?

Side point - 5 years is not very long life at all! You sure repair is out of the question? My 6 year old fridge is on the fritz and I've requested repair through the manufacturer and they're sending somebody out. There is possibility, although very slim, that it's still covered under warranty.

You can get the choice magazine free via Melbourne Library at this post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/215205. Handy that they've actually provided reviews for dishwashers in this month's magazine

  • I've had two second hand dishwashers since 2003 - the first was a top line Smeg (6 months old when I got it and I don't think it had been used), which I had for 12 years before we sold the apartment. It was the best dishwasher I'd had to that point. We moved into a house with a Miele already installed, and it's been going strong for 7 years now (not sure how long before we moved in it was bought). I found it better than the Smeg mainly in its internal organisation - I love the top shelf for cutlery which the Smeg didn't have. I haven't had any issues with the Miele, and it cleans really well and is easy to clean. If I had to get another dishwasher, it would definitely be a Miele.

My 16-year old Miele carked it 3 weeks ago, but since there was no replacement stock with the features I wanted until after Christmas, I went Bosch Series 6 to get “made in Germany”.

I looked at Choice (via local library) but TBH it is not all that useful - they can only test a handful of models from each brand and price-range. Their number 1 was a super-expensive one.

  • Recently did research on dishwashers and settled on the Bosch: https://www.bosch-home.com.au/productlist/dishwashing/underb…

We did a lot of looking in stores at the inside arrangement, flexibility (ability to change/adjust inside area), build quality and features - IMO this unit came out best.

    We were not budget focused.

    • I got the free-standing version of this model.

Also consider repairing your existing one. My old cheapo Dishlex global 300 was good for nearly 20 years - yep it failed 2 times in that time, one was a $45 water pump that I replaced, the other was a $30 heating element (corroded a small hole in it) - oh I also replaced the hoses while it was out the second time for about $50.

    Error 51: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+fix+Miel….

I got parts from a local parts supplier (easily found through google something like 'appliance spares' or 'appliance parts'). There's lots of online places too these days, so likely have it delivered to your door.

If you want a dishwasher done right then it's gotta be a Bosch. Since you are after quality over cost, get a German made series 6 or 8 and thank me later.

The Wife model has some good reviews

  • Our Miele fridge died with an irreparable issue. It was 10 years old, but they were aware of that particular issue. They offered 20% off a new one. Call them up and see if you can get a similar discount?

Otherwise, our AEG dishwasher died earlier this year and we replaced it with a Bosch Series 8 fully integrated. It's faultless, fully "smart" enabled, will tell you when the cycle is done, when it needs more rinse-aid, when it needs a clear etc.. and is so quiet, that you can only tell it's on because of the display that is light projected on to your kitchen floor.

Get a made in Germany Bosch.

  • Agree on Bosch made in Germany, mine is 10+ years and running well

  • Another vote for Bosch! Our family got our first dishwasher a few years ago. We did a lot of research beforehand and settled on the Bosch Series 6 made in Germany. It has been rock solid.
