That requires owning a microwave. Why buy a microwave when I can get this single-purpose milk frother for the same price?

      • That requires owning a microwave.

        No it doesn't.

There is a free one to use in the parent's room of the local shopping centre.

    • +2

And then you have warm, non-frothed milk.

      • It froths.

      • If you time it right, it will ultimately froth before spilling over the cup :-D

    • +2

This is the Blend 43 equivalent of properly steamed milk. (this dodgy contraption is the nespresso pod though)

    • So no frothing, got it

  • +1

What’s wrong with my $3 whisker

    • +1

      It doesn't warm the milk?

      • -3

        use the microwave.

        • +1

          2 step process is inefficient

          • +4

@cook99: Spending $174 to do the same thing is more inefficient

            • +1

@jv: Depends how you assess efficiency

              • @cook99: no it doesn't

              • @cook99: You're most likely gonna have to wash in by hand - except if you run your dish washer twice a day - hence still a 2 step process

                • +1

@ShouldIBuyIt: You don't wash the whisker? If not, Eww. If so, that's 3 steps.

Also you're not accounting for the time standing their whisking instead of doing other things while frother does the work

These are pretty darn expensive but by far the best frother I've used. Those cheap Aldi/other ones always died in under a year for me. This thing has been trooping for years for me.

I never knew it was dishwasher safe 🤦‍♂️

    • Great for hot chocolate too :D

    • best frothier

Not if you own a breville 920

      • +2

Haha yeah I've not used a 920, but they sure look nice!
Not quite apples and apples comparison

    • What is it like for latte/silky milk? I’ve never seen one that does this any good so I’d be interested.

      • +8

they can't do it, the silky milk from stretching via steam cant be replicated with a frother

    • +2

the black anko kmart frother ain't bad.

    • Have used an Aldi frother for years now. 30 bucks well spent for us . Hopefully you got your money back.

    • I’m still using the areoccino 3 came with the Nespresso machine 10 years ago.

  • +3

Had mine for over 15 years.
    Easy to clean, stainless steel.
Can make milk at the exact temperature that you prefer.
If mine died I would replace it .
Have gone through multiple microwaves and coffee machines in the years that I've had this.

  • -1

My first one of these lasted about 6 months before it suddenly stopped frothing milk 75% of the time and the replacement didn't froth milk at all. I wouldn't be surprised if amazon is selling returned ones as new.

    • Are you sure it wasn't the milk? Cows milk vary throughout the year.

      • Yep, I bought a cheap $30 Anko Milk Frother from K-mart and it has worked perfectly for over a year now.

  • +4

I used to use these before I moved to a real coffee machine and they were very good (had 2 as one of them died after a few years)…BUT…damn that is a massive hike in price since I bought mine….they used to be RRP $149 and could have them as low as $99 at Myer when on sale…now RRP $220?? crazy..

    • +1

that's what i was thinking. remember buying for like $120 and thought it was expensive (but worth it)
died after 3 years and missing it. replacement ALDI one is okay but nothing special like this but I didn't want to spend >$100 again.
best part is the capacity so can make multiple cups instead of one at a time and then having to wait for cooling down

      • Before you toss this , I've found if the milk is too cold it won't work . So when you are in really cold areas I put a tiny amount of milk in it turn on , let it start frothing and heating , the put a little mote in and as soon as that has had a few seconds of heating I pour the rest in.

        • For mine the device just died. Was a loud pop and then never came back to life (backlight gone too)
Took it a part and seems that there may have been a short circuit somewhere.
Kept the cup though so if I buy another I’ll have 2 to switch between

  • How do people use these? Before milk gets properly warm, it's such a think foam it might be fine for cappucino at best.

Also, the price for this single-use-case device makes it quite a luxurious product.

  • the lavazza is the best option for me .. you can wash the whole frother unlike kmart/ nespresso frother … mine survived for a year with daily heavy usage. bought at $47
    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/lavazza-mi…

    • Looks like a good choice too, the nespresso and unwashable ones are junk in my experience, so much landfill over the years

    • Have the same thing, bought at $50, still going strong after 2 or 3 years

    • 280ml vs 750ml

      • +1

How much milk are you drinking in a coffee?!

        • 1L - to mask the taste of the coffee ha ha.
Breville one is up to 3 cups of milk, but agree it's a niche market

    • I have a lavazza too but it is really tiny and only does about 1/3 of what this one does and makes milk very very hot.
I use the lavazza when I'm on holidays as I can toss this and mio modo mini in my bag. It too is easy to clean like the breville(quick rinse in the bathroom sink).

    • your link shows $99. still 3x the price of a Kmart one, plus it ain't rocket science to do a quick scrub and rinse of the inside without getting the outside wet.

  • Ive had this frother for going on 10 years now, had to replace the lid when I broke it, but otherwise still going strong.

    • +2

I still use mine without the lid. Still works okay! Didnt know you could buy a replacement lid. Thanks for letting me know.

    • I tossed the lid , think it was plastic. Would have just been an extra step to clean.

  • I just shake my milk in the container

  • +1

that is one expensive milk frother.

More th an the nespresso one, albeit the nespressso one is average

    • Nespresso ones are for small amounts (120ml) of milk. These can do up to 700ml and also have temp control.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Was struggling to think of what to get for someone who has everything for Christmas!

  • +1

Excellent milk frother, highly reccomend it. Although this seems to be the normal price I think I paid the same , rrp is fake

  • +1

The discs are magnetic, watch one doesn't attach to a pot during washing, then get melted when the pot goes on the stove…

    • +1

Should we ask you how you know..?

    • Wut.

  • Does this produce a different quality of milk to a steaming wand?

    • -1

If you have a good steaming wand that comes with the coffee machine this is unlikely to get better results than that. To some people, this works out to be quicker and easier to clean.

  • +1

I have one and it is awesome.
No more burnt pots, microwave mess and general coffee fails.
Also great for a quick hot choc or Milo.
I also use for the kids quick oats ( hw first)

  • +1

People who are thinking this is going to get them the same end product as steaming the milk have another thing coming. Instead you'll get an overfrothed foamy mess. Utter waste of money at this price. At this price I'd look into a stove-top steamer and get the real thing

    • +1

I feel that either people don't care about the type of foam it produces or they just mainly drink extra frothy hot choc or cappucinos.

Or there's a way to a hot-but-not-overfrothed milk from it that we don't know.

      • There is a way. Don't use the included Whisk attachment and milk does not over froth.
