Anyone travelling outside Australia i would highly recommend this Airalo Mobile for Mobile Data Around the world.
I am personally using it in New York right now and found it very reasonable price and easy to install within minutes.

    Does anyone have any tips?

  • 20GB $42 USD.(For US)

Carriers like Vodafone offer $5 roaming/day and you can use your own mobile plan including data
I recon that would be much cheaper.
    20GB isn't a lot TBH.

Really depends how long your trip is. 30days = $150 on Voda. Not so cheap anymore.

Use esimdb.com to find cheapest where you are going. I found redteago super easy and good value.
Each country has its own esim providers which will always trump these companies though.

  • does anyone know when does the esim get activated?
I'm travelling in couple of weeks, if I buy the SIM today will get activated today itself or is there an option to activate the SIM later?
The app says - the validity period starts when esim connects to any supported network. The esim supports Voda, and Au has Voda, so I'm suspecting if I buy it today the esim might get activated straight away. Anyone who has used these and can share their experience?

i have brought Airalo in US and activated in minutes and i only paid 4.50USD for 1GB data and then top up later.
it’s perfect for email and no videos apps easy and cheap.

    • From the Airalo installation guide…

Installing your eSIM before you travel will not affect its data usage and validity; with exceptions (see list at the end). Your eSIM will only be activated upon arrival at your destination, and the validity begins once you are connected to the local carrier. If the eSIM covers more than one country, it will activate at any of the covered countries (eSIMs that activate at the time of installation: Ubigi and Dtac)

  • Have used in the USA and Singapore without a problem, has worked really well on my Pixel 5. I install the eSIM before I go then it activates straight away on landing.
