Thanks, the black long was going to come after Christmas, so I went looking for who they were price matching. Turns out it's JB. I had a couple of perks I'd set up and not used that were expired, but I was still able to use it. So got for $22. Should be ready to pick up in a couple of minutes.

Edit: Oops, I'm not well, didn't realise the time. I guess it will be ready to pick up tomorrow.

Guess the black long came sooner than expected

      • But the ads promised that wouldn't happen!

      • That's what she said.

I’ve got a long black one too.

  • -1

Does it come with IR reciever or is it bluetooth

  • Seems to be on backorder?

  • seems better than the Talon Media Remote that eats up batteries fast from the backlit buttons.

    • I have the white one of this and the buttons are lot up on motion (like the PDP one) but batteries seem to last longer

  • Is a bigger one better?

    • +5

      bigger, blacker, better

      • Big black skateboard

  • Can I use this for Chromecast? The original remote is pretty slippery…

    • +3

This is an Xbox remote. Why did you think it would work with a Chromecast?

      • Will it work with amazon firestick 😏

        • Will it work with my Vodafone TV?

Edit: came to take the piss but my vtv has a combination bt and ir remote so might actually after all

Pre-Owned official remotes are $9.00 at EB right now. Shipping is $6 I think.

    • No guarantee that's going to be official.

Product listing is for both Original and third-party brands - to be selected at random

    • Product listing is for both Original and third-party brands - to be selected at random

You'll probably get a third party one

      edit: nvm beaten to it

      • I guess I was locked into my experience which was an original remote and brand new, despite the 3rd party and 2nd hand disclaimer.

        • Are they good? I'm after a 'simple' remote.

I've had the PDP Talon for a few years, and don't like it. Too many buttons and the layout doesn't lend itself to learning by muscle memory, seems slow to respond at times too.

I just went with a universal remote.

Or the cheaper model option if you only have 4 devices. https://www.bigw.com.au/product/one-for-all-contour-tv-remot…

    • Thanks PT, had been looking to get an official xbox media remote, never thought to check my one 4 all! Sorted, one less remote, thanks :)

I had the long black one, found it very slippery to handle to the point of frustration and ended up replacing it with a Talon media remote instead, same functionaility but much nicer in the hand.

I thought it was a powerboard. That'll teach me to click on a picture without reading. Maybe.

An Xbox something below RRP on Ozbargain? It’s a Christmas miracle!!!

The Xbox 360 and PS3 remotes were so good, it blows my mind that the PS4/XBONE and even the PS5/XBSX do not have something as simple as an eject button on their media remotes

    • Agreed, i used the 360 remote a lot, and having an eject button was very useful!

      • You can still run plex on the 360 right? What was the Max res for video playback?

        • Sounds like it only does 720, which is odd when a 360 has no problems playing back 1080 content.

          • @coxymla: Sorry you mean plex only allows 720p when the 360 allows 1080p from other sources? I haven't really tested it but from memory the interface/dashboard is 1080p

            • +2

@Jackson: I don't run Plex on my 360, so I can't say for sure, sorry.

I just did a quick google and found a reddit thread complaining about it.

Considering you can plug a USB stick into the 360 with 1080p mkvs and play them back fine it seems like an odd limitation.

              • +1

@coxymla: Yes, unless the steam is highly compressed and required decompression, I can't see why that would be the case. Let's face it, if you cna run a 3d FPS At 720p at a decent frame rate then a 1080p video should pose an issue

    • I've never understood an eject button on a remote.

You still have to stand up and put your hand on the disc to remove it from the console and that's, like, a centimetre from the eject button on the console.

This is something that has confused me since I was a kid watching DVDs

      • Fwiw, I always used the eject button on the remote - by the time you stood up and got to the device, your cd/dvd was there waiting to be removed. As opposed to pushing the button on the device and having to wait a few seconds for the mechanism to open.

I mean, I'm not saying this is a significant or substantial benefit, and I would probably never even have noticed if this button was missing (it is definitely not a dealbreaker to me, and I cant honestly say I have even thought about it before!). But now that you mention it, it is definitely a feature that I made use of, however insignificant that benefit was.

        Just fwiw.

      • For me its the convenience of being able to take/swap discs by the time you get to the machine as it ejects the disc. I'm also very picky with pressing buttons on a console/media player on unstable tables (OCD kicking in big time - when reading instruction manuals for devices that get bumped/moved with discs inside).

Amazon price matching JB HIFi - Long Black, Short White

  • I use this. Not sue if you can still get them but dedicated power button (that can power on or off), dedicated eject button and full keyboard is a winner for me

    Note it's IR not BT

  • Is there a short black version?

Not according to my browser search history.

Are people using their xboxes as media players often? I always avoided it since I could play media on nay old thing. Last thing I was is my xbox capping itself cos I was watching Seinfeld reruns

    • +2

We use our Xbox One as our main media centre (streaming + free to air TV on the extremely rare occasion we watch that, which is hardly ever). I got it really cheaply from Ozbargain, and it was back in the day before Shield TV / when they were far more expensive, and way before all these Firesticks and Google TVs etc.

I guess I could replace it with a Firestick TV…but I haven't really messed around trying to install Kodi and stuff on that, so havent bothered trying to switch over yet.

    • I use my XSX for everything. I gave my Apple TV 4K to a friend. I wish I didn't though, I miss Infuse. And I can't use my AirPods on the xbox easily. And I miss being able to cast my phone and MacBook to the Apple TV. My TV only has two 4K@60hz ports tho, and one is used by XSX and the other by PS5.

      • +1

My TV only has two 4K@60hz ports tho, and one is used by XSX and the other by PS5.

It doesn't really matter how many ports your TV has, because you can use HDMI switches and/or an AV Receiver to add as many HDMI ports as you need.
More than 2 devices to a 2 port display is totally doable 👌

        • I might have to get something like that, because I sure don't want to buy another TV.

      • HDMI selector/switch.

    • I am asking the same thing. My LG TV inbuilt apps works well for plex and the major streaming services I use like Netflix, Prime and Disney+. Else I would use a GTV. Using my XSX seems like an expensive waste of power. Not that I have done the calculations to work out cost VS GTV :)

    • Yes I do!

I have problems watching Netflix on my TV, after a while it just stops working, it lags, it signs me out, doesn't load… not sure how to fix apart from resetting the whole TV back to default. I can't search and add new apps on my TV either, just standard ones. So I can't access Amazon Prime, Disney+, Twitch, etc.

My LG remote, from a CS OLED, works with my Series X.

    • Where's the pause button tho

      • You just click on the scroll wheel.

        • Doesn't work on blu ray playback unfortunately 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Infrared, gross.
