Boxing Day/Xmas Sales - Do eBay/Amazon & Other Big Overseas Stores Do Them/Properly ?

Hello

Do eBay/Amazon & other Big Overseas sites/brands/stores do 'real' Boxing Day/Xmas Sales for us - and also same thing for normal Aussies sites/brands/stores too including bricks and mortar stores?

And if they do - are they any good discount wise? Or no real discounts, or mediocre discounts, or same as what there already is this time of year (eg post Black Friday but before Xmas)?

Would they likely/historically be exactly the same as their best Black Friday discounts; or worse/better?

I want to buy a bunch more stuff as I missed out on getting everything I wanted for Black Friday as I got tied up….

Right now, I've been holding off - wondering if there will be better specials at Xmas or Boxing Day (whether online sales or in-stores)?
Or am I deluding myself - is this as good as it will get for the rest of this year; and I should just go ahead and get what I want now?

Also - a side question….

I'm curious - do many people ever buy something as an eBay Plus/Amazon Prime purchase and within a few days/weeks - month; then return it within the free return/refund period because they've seen it soon after at a much better price - has anyone actually returned items and re-ordered the cheaper one?

Does that ever work out on the odd occasion; or is it just too much hassle/goes wrong etc?

Thanks for your help

Hahaha… no. What they do is wheel out the hype train and go to bank on the notion that “Boxing Day sales” are a thing. There will be one thing in store, that no one wants, that is 50% off and everything else is either inflated or price jacked with a fake discount applied.

This is the same as every other sale holiday bullshit during the year, ie; Black Friday and Cyber Monday. They are corporate constructs and marketing genius that has a great percentage of the population believing in this shit.

Boxing Day sales are the “We’re going out of business, 80% off all Persian rugs” of sales…

Bruh, there were legit sales during Black Friday, please put the pirate flag down.
Did my season shopping one month before black Friday and heavily regretted it.

Bought sunglasses for $270, were discounted at $210
Bought $230 shoes, were discounted at $150
Bought $100 pants, were down to $75

To add to that, i bought various items during Black Friday (sd cards, wireless keyboard, dji mini 3 drone) at great real discounts. Black Friday is nothing ground breaking but you can get good discounts. I expect the same for Boxing day

        Not rude if it's true.

I was referring to op who never comment again, not Mr Snake.

          • @foxmulder: Well in that case, I agree, and wasn't the one who negged you anyway.

Maybe you can get a fresh phone at the boxing day sales?

  • "Prime purchase and within a few days/weeks - month; then return it within the free return/refund period because they've seen it soon after at a much better price - has anyone actually returned items and re-ordered the cheaper one?"

Just to let you know, I think Amazon might have changed their T&C's recently. I tried to return something that was no longer needed so basically change of mind, and if I chose that option Amazon said they would charge me shipping for returning it.
Not sure if anyone else has experienced this but yeah. I don't return many things either it's very rarely I returned something.

    • This has been the case 18 months ago when i was trying to do a return.

It was standard. It could also be that some sellers do not accept change of mind refund.

      • "It could also be that some sellers do not accept change of mind refund."

In my case it has been with products shipped and sold by Amazon AU.

For some reason I remember it being free at one time even for change of mind (within a certain period, I think 7 days?).

        • Sorry correction.

"In my case it has -also- been with products shipped and sold by Amazon AU".

    • are you three talking specifically about ebay plus and or amazon prime purchases?
Cause I've asked them both specifically about this in chat recently and they've said unless its something like food that is unreturnable - then it's covered - full stop?

Give me some details if you have an example? And I would fight it if they try to screw you!
It says clear as day on their site about returns for those services.

      Actually - be warned…

The one thing I am aware of - is with Amazon they have funny rules.

If it's from Amazon AU and I think - just Amazon? then it's covered, but if it's from Amazon UK, Amazon US, Amazon Global Store etc or anywhere else - I don't think it's covered in the free refund/return thing?

However - I will double check if I find a good deal that is only one of those cause it still might be wrong as I've found you get lots of different answers from different support staff which makes things even more confusing!

      cheers

      • Not eBay plus I am talking just about Amazon Prime.
I had read a few comments on some deals here saying "buy now think later" etc because Amazon returns policy was so easy, but from what I experienced recently that's just not the case. Maybe these customers are being dishonest about the return reason to avoid paying return fees I don't know.

But yeah I am not quite certain on the details. Last time I checked with items both "Shipped and sold by Amazon AU" and "Fulfilled by Amazon" e.g. shipped from Amazon AU warehouse but from third-party seller, these both fell under the same returns policy.

I can't remember every single change of mind return I have done, because it's not many. But the most recent one I remember was Fulfilled by Amazon, shipped from SA though and I am in NSW. I ordered two of the same item, turns out I didn't need to second one so started a change of mind return within 7 days and it showed that return shipping costs would be removed from my refund amount.

Just thought I should say something because if it is a larger heavy item the return shipping might be expensive.

And yeah I am aware that food/drink items are usually not returnable full stop.

  • Had the same issue with amazon recently, they must have changed their free return policy, because it definetely wasn't like not too long ago, I think it changed around September, now it needs to specify free return or something similar on the actual listing, to make sure you are covered also for change of mind etc, a bit annoying to be honest…

    • "now it needs to specify free return or something similar on the actual listing,"

Yeah I think you are right. I don't remember exactly in my return attempt examples, but I definitely did more recently notice certain products with the "free returns" text.
I just assumed it was a marketing ploy and still applied to all their Sold by and Fulfilled by Amazon items. Now maybe not you need to see that text if you want free change of mind returns.

And it's not that often that you see it. Because I have bought plenty of items in the last few months and not one of them had the free returns text.
