Sound Only Coming out of One Side of Headphones (Wired and Wireless) from Phone

My Android phone has started only putting out sound to one side of headphones when they are connected. I’ve tried several headphones, both wired and wireless and all have the same issue, but they all work fine when connected to other devices. This tells me something is wrong with my phone. It is a Moto G31. I’ve gone through settings, reset device, but no fix.

Appreciate any suggestions. Google came up blank for this specific issue.

It sounds like one of the contact points inside the earphone jack isn't making contact with the plug. Have you tried cleaning out the phone jack with a toothpick or an air duster?

That doesn’t explain why this issue is occurring for wireless headphones though…

      • oh my bad! I missed the bit about the wireless ones!

All good, it was my first thought too, and I’d still give that a go

@jjjaar: Since it includes wireless, it should be a software thing. The next thing it could be is the audio "balance" setting? Or worst case, a full hard reset should fix it..

@bobbified: Haha literally was my next thought, which I posted below!

@bobbified: At least we’re both coming up with the same useful suggestions 😂

Have you checked the sound balance? In iOS it’s under accessibility, but basically you can control how the volume balances from L to R speaker.

      Thanks everyone and especially Jjjaar!
On android under accessibility, audio balance was weighted to the right, brought it back to the centre and it worked perfectly! You are a legend.
Don’t know why it was like this as I have certainly never navigated to that menu for any reason!

Do you have kids? They get into random settings all the time.

Though I did find it weird this wasn’t fixed with a reset, but unless it was a full settings reset, that would be why.

Also @bobbified deserves just as much praise 😂❤️

          Thanks to bobbified as well!
Just love the ozbargain community and how helpful everyone is.
Yeah I’m quite confused as well, but at least it’s fixed now. The irony is I had an old set of headphones (gaffa taped up being held together), that I ended up throwing out because I thought they had finally broke. It was probably just this issue on reflection…haha. At least it made me buy a new set.

Pozzing OP for actually commenting and not ghosting the thread…

        • Good call! It’s always annoying when you offer suggestions and never hear back. It’s like a TV series cliffhanger, I need to know what happens next!
