Same Items Cheaper on Amazon.com Versus Amazon.com.au

Just wondering if people have found this to be a common occurence where it is cheaper to buy items on Amazon.com than Amazon.com.au even with the higher shipping charge. I realise this is dependant on the individual stores that sell through these sites but interested to hear people's experiences.

E.g. Latent Epicure Battery Operated Salt and Pepper Grinder Set - $76.10 delivered from Amazon.com and $96.22+shipping from Amazon.com.au.

You're comparing one sold directly by the company to one sold by a reseller who would be taking advantage of the fact that the item is not available in Australia.

I've done a bit of comparing between the two sites and usually there isn't much difference if both from the same seller.

Can confirm. After including Shipping + Taxes + Currency Conversion, it more or less the same price (assuming both are directly from Amazon).

  • Is Amazon.com in USD and com.au in AUD?

    • Yes plus GST is added at checkout on the US site and is already in the displayed price on the AU site.

The prices I listed in my example are both in AUD including all taxes.

Jeff B. the best salesman in the world, (since some guy in Medina recycled Angel Gabriel)

I guess MacKenzie is much happier without him……

It was certainly cheaper on the US site for the first year or so after AU launched but I've found the opposite now. I try not to buy from third party sellers or at least items that are shipped from a third party but looking at items sold by and shipping from Amazon US, I haven't found one that was cheaper buying from the US site than the AU site all year.

  • Slightly different case but I went to buy from Amazon.com for someone in the US but I found it was cheaper to buy from Amazon.com.au even when I include shipping and currency conversion. Was surprised.

  • I did a comparison on Peugeot Zeli Duo, way cheaper from Amazon.com.au
