Paint Stone Chip Repair - Sydney North Shore

I noticed this stone chip on the bonnet of my wifes car yesterday.
It about 1 mm to 2 mm in diameter and looks like its starting to rust.

A quick google show several mobile chip repair people, but I'd like to choose someone based on others personal experience.
Does anyone have a personal recommendation for someone to repair this, either mobile or not??

That's some scratched up clear coat. Do you use drive through car washes?

    • Nope. Its just a somewhat neglected vehicle :-(

The clear coat on the roof is also peeling badly and needs a respray.
Is it worthwhile fixing this, if I was planning to trade the vehicle to a dealer later?
I presume a dealer could fix this much cheaper, and would just factor it into the trade in price?

      • This makes no sense. Cheers

With clear coat that bad I’d just hit the rust spot with some steel wool, dab on some rust converter and then cover it with some touch up paint.
No point in paying for a pro to fix a shit heap unless you want to keep it long term.
Alternatively, ignore the rust and keep driving the car until something major fails, or spend $1200 on a shitty respray that might last a year if you’re lucky.

  • Need banana for scale.

  • Lexus of Chatswood have a repair shop attached to their service department.

They’re not specific to Lexus repairs but do an amazing job of repairs

    • Thanks, I'll give them a call.

      • When my car was with their service team they were rear ended (Lexus was not at fault). The panel shop did the repair and did an amazing job of it. They have other stuff in there but Toyota australia had their LFA in there getting restored (I got given a tour).

I’ve had a couple of family and friends use their panel beating shop and all were really happy with the work. No idea about costs though

    • McCarroll workshop on Barcoo St? Gets a little spendy.

$160/hr ex. I've got a car there waiting to be repainted.

  • Pro Auto Repairs, they are mobile and will come to you.

I have used them a number of times without issue.

    • Thanks, I'll get a quote.

  • Get a colour matched touch up pen, and you’ll be able to use it next time too

    • Probably too late for that, since it looks like its starting to rust.

Just head to Hotham Pde, Artarmon and the nearby streets, plenty of decent workshop to choose from.

This guy can do it, or you can get a custom kit made up and DIY. He's very helpful.
