Recommended Bluetooth Speakers under $200

I had a moment of FOMO with the UE Boom 3 deal a few months back and bought it on impulse after reading generally good reviews. I… didn't like the sound quality. It sounds muffled and muddy and a little tinny to me. I use it to watch movies as well and could hardly hear the voices clearly. I do quite like the bass and volume and battery life, form factor, etc. so it's not all bad. I just didn't love it as much as I thought I would.

I'm looking other speakers like JBL Charge 5, Flip 6, Clip, Go, Bose Soundlink, Marshall Emberton, Sonos Roam. Any thoughts as to which is a good buy? I'm after portability and balanced sound clarity.

This is the cheapest I have ever seen these go at.
Can use Jb Gcโ€™s on top to get a minimum of 10% off

    Good luck

I strongly recommend the Tribit Stormbox Pro currently available from Amazon for around $140. It sounds awesome for the price.

You aren't really going to see quality audio with portable bluetooth speakers. In general they are fashion items, you pay silly money for what claims to be a 'brand'. Dig into their technical capabilities and they are usually bog standard tech. If you want a determining factor for if they take quality seriously, see if you can find one with the aptX HD codec.

The Tribit speaker I recommended has Qualcomm aptX.
Is that what you are talking about? ๐Ÿค”

There are two basic standards, aptX and aptX HD - guess which is better. In fact there are others too eg aptX adaptive, etc.

Anything is better than SBC, which is the base, default, standard - and is the only thing most of this type of speaker carry.

Frankly putting some acceptable transducers and amp together with some batteries isn't too taxing - but if the codec can't carry the quality, you'll hear it (or rather, you won't).

Thanks for the technical explanation. ๐Ÿ‘
