Hi Ozbargainers,

As the end of the year draws near and many pharmaceutical companies are shutting up for the year, the deals are getting near on impossible to secure (with all the sales reps on annual leave). Fortunately we received our last delivery of the year from Pharmacy Action this week and it included a truck load of Loratadine10mg. This is great news as Trust branded Loratadine is long term OOS with suppliers and we're nearly out, so this this shipment was received with open arms.

I've had a quick look around the interweb and I think this order has come in at equal or better to best ever pricing for this brand - as always I doubt there is a competitor anywhere near us in pricing for delivered stock.

      Care to explain further? I don’t think any of these meds are made in Australia. I’ve have a few packs of antihistamines from these deals from all different manufacturers and I don’t recall seeing a country of origin on them. I believe a lot of meds like this are made in India, but I’d have to dig deeper to confirm.

        Most (all) manufacturers are fairly cryptic in relation to origin (as many name brands and generics actually share manufacturing facilities - ie in some instances it all comes from the same facility) - Most hayfever lines sold in Oz originate in India and some in China.

      Answer: it's complicated.

      Drug retailers don't know where it's made. No country of origin is required to be disclosed to consumers. It can be different for each batch of the same tablets (see the unique lot ID on the box.)

      Generic medications are usually made in 3 separate factories; can easily be different countries. The active ingredient (and other raw materials), the pill press and the filling line (blister packs, printed box, etc.)

      These companies all buy and sell to each other to manage demand / whatever is cheap on the day.

      There are only 8 countries that have factories that make fexo. Majority in India (60-80%, pharmacy to the world), then China, then it's niche.

      Aus only has a single API manufacturer so it's definitely not made here.

      IMHO: you will never know, the seller doesn't know as they buy from wholesalers, who buy from auctions, who may be sold by a factory that didn't make it.
