Just make sure you sign up with an alias.

I spent a considerable amount of time (and really impressed myself) with my photoshopping skills and my telco didn't do their due diligence so they're dealing with a nobody, if they're hacked my actual details are safe.

    • +2

Can't tell if sarcasm or serious lol

      • He's a born tactician. Every move he makes, it means something.

    • That's some next level John Connor sh!t.

    • Photoshopping what, exactly? Identity docs?

Yeah just some mild fraud, lmao

      • -3

Yes, basically creating 100 points of ID which my telco asked for.

They asked me to hold up my license and take a selfie showing my face and my license simultaneously.

So I took my license, modified it and used the same face on the license over my face in the image holding my license.

If they checked they would have realised the information is incorrect. They approved the account and I'm using it now.

If they're hacked which is likely at some point my most important data isn't compromised.

I now use this information for all private companies, I don't owe them 100 points of ID, f that.

        • I mean, you're committing fraud, lol.

          • @Tnetennba: Yes I probably broke one or more rules, not a big deal giving false information to a private company imo especially one that, in my opinion unnecessarily asked for a lot of personal information.

If I stop paying my bills they'll stop providing a service.

If I do naughty things with my service the authorities will find me, they aren't stupid and I know neither fooling nor trying to fool them.

It's clear what I'm doing and if it's not for you, don't do it. I'm sure Optus customers are enjoying worrying about the hackers knowing who they are, where they live etc.

            • @[Deactivated]: Good logical answer. I'm on board with you 👍

              • @cornflakes: I don't understand why a telco needs a picture of your face and passport or drivers license, I run a business with thousands of accounts for decades and have never required that much customer information and can't for the life of me justify it.

Providing it accurately, in my opinion is a nightmare waiting to happen but many people are fine with private companies some of them operating from countries that help them distance themselves from you when they feel it's in their best interest collecting this amount of (in my opinion unnecessary) data.

                • +1

@[Deactivated]: All telcos, even ones providing prepaid-pnly services, require standard KYC information to mitigate risks such as simswapping. This gets more complicated when customers sign up for postpaid servcies which can also be bundled with phone contracts, and this is when they start mandating selfie-license proof for purposes such as credit checks. No clue what service is being used by your telco to conduct KYC, but sounds like an extreme red flag to me if they are too careless to check information against a government database.

                • @[Deactivated]: The hackers complained they didn't get enough info, asked Optus to farm some more.

  • So this won’t have the esim that copies your current number so you won’t have a different phone number for you phone and watch?

    • I'm on a prepaid plan currently, so will go to their $40 plan (with the discount) and then get the watch number share add on.

    5011 works

  • +16

My personal information has been double compromised by Optus and Medibank, so I am immune to any hackers.

    • +7

The hacker would be like ah this daniel guy again….. boring…

How about porting in? You get 50% off straightaway for 12 Months. (No location requirement).

    • looks like this deal has replaced that one unfortunately :S

  • Shame they switched to $5 a day for roaming now

    • Get an esim 2nd service for the country you are travelling to. Check esim db

Some people need international roaming for work unfortunately.

It's weird that all the best international roaming are pre-paid only…

        • when i used to go to HK for work twice a year i would just pick up a prepaid sim at the airport, up and running within 15 min. was just easier i felt and less worry of blowing up the roaming data allocation.

  • Got my partner on this alst time it was 50% off. Been running like a charm. I am in Melbourne

    • +1

Downside to it, she was identified in the hack XX

  • Optus hacking their prices down. Lol

  • Any OzBargain way/hack on getting this deal ? I’m would like to keep my optus number and I have a CBD address .. ><

    • Port out to Boost the port back on to Optus

      • It won't allow you to finish the order if your delivery address isn't within their postcode list.

        • Last time there were no issues! I guess they learnt a lot from their last hack and ozbargain hacks.

  • +1

Was a bit conflicted, as took over 12 weeks to get my new license after the optus hack (coincidentally my license was up for renewal too) - to have to enter my license again.
But here we are, just moved one of my old optus numbers to this deal, went from an old $45 plan over to the an essentially $29 plan.

    Thanks op

    *Edit
got a call saying exisiting optus numbers are not eligible for this plan.
told them to cancel it and will look at a different provider

    • *edit

They called back said they could now process it.
told them to just f off after they refused to answer my question on why they would waste my time to call me, make me call them back as i had the missed call, then wait on hold, for them to tell me it wasnt available.

then call back to see it is available.

all she kept saying was 'so can i process'

no, you cannot process it. swapping over to any mob other than optus tonight.

5064 works, just signed up on their $59 plan ($39 after discount). Added my Apple Watch for an additional $5. First time using eSim too and it worked. I've removed my physical SIM card from old carrier and all works fine.

      Metro Melb Customer..

I have been a long (suffering more recently) optus customer and despite the data leak, I have been lazy enough not to do anything about it..
Was considering moving to a Boost Prepaid service, chatted to the agent and they've offered me a $49 sim only plan, for $24 a month + $1 a month to get a samsung galaxy a34 5g (which I'll onsell)..
Catch was, it is a 36 month commitment, and I would need to call every 12 months to ensure my discount to $25 a month, is rolled over..

Weighed it up on the basis that I do need at least 30GB a month data, and their wasn't a competitor in the prepaid market that could match the deal that weren't using the Vodafone network (Would really only consider Boost for Telstra's network if I was to move).

So in total, $900 over 36 months, hope to sell the phone for $400 odd. So a $500 outlay for 3 years.. And they've already allowed my personal details into the cyberworld, so it can't get any worse..

      • It won't sell for $400 and you will also have a credit check.

You will be better off having a credit check for a new credit card instead.

seems that any WA post code works even the CBD.

      • WA, TAS & NT are pretty much always counted as rural and excluded from fixed shipping costs (on other deals).

    • Can you combine this with the half price pixel deal? I tried doing it but couldn't find an option to select a device

    • Adelaide CBD is rural apparently.

      Some would agree on this

      • Anywhere in Qld, NT, WA, SA, TAS, including capital cities is rural according to their postcode checker.

    • Just cancelled all my Optus with the discounted Samsung Tab A8 128GB ($5.82 a month) and half price Iphone 11 128GB ($$41.52 a month) all paid off. These two easy deal of 2022 in my opinion. Only switch on the Tab A8 first time today 🤣🤣 Lucky it is not DOA and now going through 1 year of updates. Why can't Samsung just apply the lates?😓😓

Look at my account history i had been with them for so long (since 2018 but actually longer than that). Have to say their customer services is just garbage. Plan wise is good though, had been on the prom plan since god knows when. No one else has the data amount they provided for under $70 (I think was $59 then $65). The biggest surprise was their 5G. Still trumps everything else in area that I go to.

I cancelled because the lack of good roaming option. If stingy as Vodafone can do $5 roaming with all your Aus data at your disposal while roaming, why Optus can't do it? I would have stay wit them if they have this option and let me keep the promo plan (Optus tend to force you on normal plans after promotion finish but will give it back to you if you cancel).

Anyway now all line with Vodafone, and interestingly other account user say its actually faster, well at lease in my home area. Sucks that I am paying the same but 200G less data.

    • +1

If you have mobile plan with them. They offer a 50% discount on the second number.

    • I signed up for this about an hour after posting.
They called me within 30 minutes and processed it immediately. They said 15 minutes to 4 hours before it’s active. It’s still not swapped over

      • Are you churning from an Optus MNVO?

If so it usually has to be done manually which can cause a delay.

If churning from Telstra/Voda it should happen in the stated timeframe.

But knowing Optus, anything is possible

        • Are you churning from an Optus MNVO?

If so it usually has to be done manually which can cause a delay.

          Not any more.

    • Still not worth it. Optus should have dropped their prices to counter the bad press and make themselves look like viable competitor. Crap deals like this just highlight they still dont get it.

      • its value is gone when compare say 12-18 months ago. $65 you get
500G of data (save $70 if you can ditch NBN)
        Free Optus sport.
        Free prime for a year.

    • hey guys, when i enter my home address into the form to sign up, it says my address isn't eligble? Any iueas?
      Thanks
