Also this is a good short video on the history of Japanese whisky if anyone's interested. Explains Nikka (the purist) and Suntory (the capitalist)

      A bottle for ants!

Still overpriced but not bad considering the alternatives. Yes it's 500ml, yes it's NAS, yes it has grain, but this is an exceptionally well made blend bottled at a decent strength that shits all over the Taketsurus and Hibikis and other rando NAS Japanese blends.

Personally wouldn't buy, but there's nothing else out there with the current Japanese offerings. Yamazaki 12 @ $400 is absurd. Buy a Balvenie 12, put it in a decanter and say it's Yama. I bet you most people can't tell the difference.

This whisky packs a punch. Decent price considering you can get it around $45 to $50 when in Japan. Factor in Australian alcohol tax and $85 makes sense.

It's always been in a 500ml bottle. Only in US it comes in a 700 or 750ml bottle.

For those buying just cos it's a Japanese whisky note it's no longer classified as such due to the blend including Scottish whisky. Not officially stated by Nikka itself but Lotsa whisky sites say it's Ben Nevis e.g. below:

Nikka From the Barrel is a blend of Japanese whisky and Scotch. The constituents in the blend consist of whiskies from the Yoichi, Miyagikyo, and Ben Nevis distilleries
