    • Noted with thanks.
Will have a search in costco

    • Lamb BBQ chops and Pork chops present the best value by far these days and are very tasty when prepared properly

SUGGESTION: Spread a bit of olive oil with your fingers over the meat on both sides then spinkle plenty of McCormick steak seasoning or similar on both sides as well and dab in so it doesnt fall off.

If you want these (or any meat) to be really tasty and more tender too, then be sure to marinate in a cheap cask red wine for a few hours first.

Both lamb chops and pork chops typically under $20/kg.

Otherwise look for Rump steak which is always reasonably priced and prepare the same way.

  • Firstly, what kind of BBQ are you using and how many people are you feeding?

Best bang for buck/effort would be to get some of their tomahawk steaks and reverse sear them IMO

In that case anything will.do… they will end up tasting the same as cooking on a fry pan.

        • ^This is a roast in every definition of the word

        • Ouch, but true…

At least you get some nice grill lines?

Whilst not the same as using a charcoal or wood BBQ, the Smoker Box can help infuse smoke flavours into your cooking.

Coles have a generic version which isn't on their website, I think it was about $15 last time I saw it.

Bunnings also have a version that is usually in store, and you can pick up some wood chips from the BBQ section.

      I'm vegan.

How long did it take you to travel to Earth ?

      • +3

It felt like forever, but I landed face-first on a veggie patch.

    • LOL. There will be a lot of veg salads in combination with the BBQ meats.
      It's a fun comment so +1

I'd take this opportunity to tell you you don't have to pick one over the other.

Meat based diet makes the body big.
Plant based diet makes the body strong.

Plant foods are more important than meat in term of staying healthy long term.
It takes me more efforts to cook veg meals than meat.

It's not an "either or" situation. Both are good.

      • It's not an "either or" situation. Both are good.

If you were vegan, you'd know that only one is good!

        Are you at OP's bbq?

I bought some Blade steak from Costco @ $22 a KG. I cut them in 1/2, put them in the Sous Vide for 2 hours, grilled briefly on the BBQ, and served with Bernaise Sauce.

Better than the $48 steak (+$10 extra for chips) I had whilst on holidays at Coffs Harbour.

$22 a kg is a nice price with such good results! Worth a try

Sous Vide was the key. Costco had their Anova pack for $239 last week. I have an Inkstation I bought on Amazon(or ebay) for @ $100. It needs a large food grade container.

Their is also this from Costco, though I don't know how good the Sous Vide mode is. Here are some reviews

Soon, chips will cost more than the steak.

Highly recommend the pork Scotch fillets (used to be called country style pork).

Cheap per kg, barbeques beautifully and great flavour.

  • T-Bone and not the car accident type.

Don’t wish to boast (well maybe just a little!!). I just returned to Chile from Argentina. We had parillas most nights. Last meal was a hunk of barbecued eye fillet steak, I kid you not, 3” thick (I have photo!) cooked to perfection. Best steak ever, came with chips and salad. I couldn’t eat it all-had it cold for lunch next day-yum! Total cost ARS$1000, which worked out to AUD$8.59. At that price, almost felt guilty eating it!!

Can't go past the beef tenderloin Angus. Just over 2kg will feed a lot of people who won't forget you. Google for Marinade and cooking instructions. Assume you have a hooded bbq. If you really want to impress, get the wagyu version but it's double the price. Also pick up a meat thermometer while you are there. Happy steaking.

Their lamb cutlets (Frenched) are always a hit on the bbq (just needs simple seasoning of salt, pepper & oil). But prices are pretty high these days $40+/kg

Edit - sorry OP, just saw your preference for beef/pork but leaving my comment for others

  • i like the GÖTZINGER sosigs

  • Get the a5 japanese wagyu, its only $300 per kg

  • What do they do with all the meat not sold?
