If you are truly interested in saving money you should consider a vacuum sealer to prolong the life of all the produce bargains you find or even better the masses of produce you might grow yourself. It has been a game changer for me and my 700 Litre freezer is full of produce that last much longer & are far fresher with the help of one of these. My experience is that most produce lasts at least 5x longer without the dreaded freezer burn that the uninitiated will be, no doubt, familiar.

All time low for Amazon according to 3 camels https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B08LCXZYLK. Was slightly lower for ebay plus members recently @ $58.39 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/739441.

I upgraded from my $40 Aldi sealer recently for the next model up, the Inkbird INK-VS02, which is also a Boxing day special @ $86.99 (Normally $115.99) https://www.amazon.com.au/INKBIRD-INK-VS02-Canister-Indicato… and can highly recommend it. I'm sure this base model would be sufficient for the majority.

  • Great stonking price. Recently bought its big brother and happy with it 'xept for the bags that came with it which is mediocre at best.

I love vacuum sealers too but the latest research into BPA free claims has me concerned

    https://www.livescience.com/66026-bpa-replacement-chemicals-…

If you change the molecular structure ever so slightly and give it a new name does it really fix the root cause problem? It seems not and BPA Free might be just another plastic industry marketing initiative to extend their social licence for another decade.

Everything you buy is pretty much in plastic now days

      • Correct. Especially at Aldi with their meat 🍖

  • i usually eat the bargains that i find in the immediate future or cook and/or freeze them. is this a good thing to use? and how easy is it to get the plastic thing to vacuum from

    • +1

Once you do once or twice, you will find it is super easy to do, and very satisfy when vacuum the foods

  • How do you find the upgrade from aldi model. I currently using the aldi one myself

I'm in my early days with the Inkbird but so far I am extremely happy and the benefits are well worth the price difference. I paid $30 for a discounted Aldi model and it has served me well over a few years. A few things I have noticed so far that have been worth the upgrade:

Being able to select between dry and wet foods makes dealing with moist produce much much easier. Previously I would have to start the vacuum process and when it was clear that it had sucked enough I would have to quickly press stop and then the seal button ASAP all the while praying that the moisture would not impede the seal. Often times I would have to clean the upper section of the bag and repeat until I got the timing right.

The sealing element on the Aldi model would quickly overheat and I would have to stand around waiting for it to cool down before the machine would allow me to seal again. This is mainly as I make my own bags, seal a printed label in a small 1cm pocket and double seal the end. All this means 4 seals per bag with only 1 seal requiring a vacuum. Given my next point below I will no longer double seal the end. I am yet to have this happen on the Inkbird saving me many wasted minutes when doing batch sealing, which is pretty much any time I use it.

The sealing element is much wider on the Inkbird and creates a very solid seal in comparison.

The vacuum is stronger and therefore quicker and more reliable to start the process and avoid having to adjust the bag into just the right position.

Has anyone found the accessories for the suction hose like containers and wine bottle cork

Can you use this to seal meat for sous vide? (sorry if that's a silly question)

    • +3

      perfect for sous vide

      • Nice thanks!

  • with the Inkbird INK-VS02 can you use bigger roles or are you limited to the roll size that fits in the machine ? ie can I use it with a 6m roll ?

    • The spec is up to 20 foot roll which is equal to 6 metres. I have 10 metre rolls but haven't tested whether they'll fit yet as I still using rolls I had already started. Even if it doesn't you can just shorten a roll to allow it to fit and wrap the off cut on to the roll once it is finished.

  • Does the Inkbird INK-VS02 have a built in cutter?
I don't see it in the pictures.

    • +1

Yes. Check the 2nd image and you'll see it when the machine is opened up.

  • I usually smoke eat my own produce straight away.

  • Came yesterday, great machine

    • Hey, what type of Power Cord did it come with US or Aus?
