Neighbour Killing Pest Birds in His Yard

In a casual discussion, my neighbor mentioned to me that he's been killing blackbirds and Indian Minah birds in his backyard.

As an attempt to keep them off his fruit and vegetable crops, he's been trapping them and then euthanizing them - according to him, humanely.
I was pretty shocked as I consider this to be a bit over the top and kind of weird.

I told him this, but he's convinced that it's legal and ethical as they are invasive pest bird species that compete with native wildlife.

I've been looking at a few government wildlife websites, but they're all super vague and don't tell me whether or not he's allowed to do this.

Does anyone have any experience in this area and can tell me if it's legal for him to be doing this?

Need more details. Likely illegal though if he is discharging a firearm in a built up area.
If he is cage trapping them and then transporting them to acreage to euthanise then that is legal.

my council is lending me a trap to help get rid of myahs.. really.. the humans are more invasive.. but since nazis it's a touchy subject

I remember picking up a pamphlet at the front desk of my local library on how to kill Indian Mynas. Trap then car exhaust was the preferred way. Bit hazy on this but I think you can borrow traps from the council or some semi-govt agency.

Turns out the native noisy miner is even worse in an urban environment- ahole of a bird.

It's probably best not to have your head in the bag watching them anyway.

!? The birds in that picture at the top look just like the Indian Myna picture someone posted a link to earlier in this thread. Yellow feet, yellow beek, yellow behind the eye. One native, the other people are encouraged to kill, both look the same to me!?

You’re trolling, right? Noisy miners and Indian mynas hardly look anything alike, they’re completely different colours.

No, I've never been sure which is which. So when someone posted a link earlier in this thread, I went and looked at the picture and made a mental note: Yellow legs, yellow beak, yellow "comet streak" behind the eye. Then the link above about should we cull noisy mynas shows birds with the same markings as the ones in the first link.

It's not over the top killing pests.

To the people who'd rather not kill invasive species, you're literally contributing to the extinction of native wildlife.

Cane toads are moving into NSW from QLD and are causing major havoc.

Deers are also causing issues to national parks in NSW.

Blackbirds, Indian Myna birds, cats (pets and feral) and foxes are detrimental to local birds like the Noisy Miners and Magpies.
