    Check your state's laws, pocket knives that can be opened with one hand are typically illegal.

        Lots of stores get caught selling illegal stuff, because they're not lawyers, and law isn't always obvious.

        In Qld the law says "Any knife designed or constructed so as to be used as a weapon that while the knife is held in 1 hand, the blade may be released by that hand is a Category M Weapon." Category M weapons require a license.

        About a decade ago I saw a pocket knife with a stud on the blade, so it can be opened with one hand. I checked, and at that time, such pocket knives were illegal in most states, they're only slightly different from flick knives. This knife is similar.

          Also in QLD laws:

          a person may carry a knife on his or her belt for performing work in primary production
a scout may carry a knife on his or her belt as part of the scout uniform
a person may carry a knife as an accessory while playing in a pipe band
a fisher may carry a knife for use while fishing
a person who collects knives may exhibit them at a fete or another public gathering
a person may use a knife to prepare or cut food at a restaurant in a public place or when having a picnic in a park, or
a person may carry a pen knife or swiss army knife for use for its normal utility purpose.

            @OZKap: You quoted the parts referring to common knives. This type of knife is specifically excluded, as described in the factsheet at the link you gave:

            A flick knife, or a similar device of any material that has a blade folded or recessed into the handle that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or if pressure is applied to a button, spring or device attached to the handle of the device is a category M weapon.

            How is this not a flick knife? The Sydney tools webpage says "Press and Flip for fast, one handed openings". Watch the video if you have any doubt it's a flick knife: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENbKKiJfqlo

            And being a flick knife, I think you'll find it's banned in most if not all states.

            "designed or constructed so as to be used as a weapon" - well, the fact sheet explicitly says it is a weapon.

          Ok wow that is pretty strict. I'm in NSW and i carry a one hand opening & closing knife, it has the stud on the blade. I carry it with me any time i leave the house, only time i would take it off is if i had to go to a school.

          But both tools in this deal are ok to carry in QLD which is bizarre they will open you up without effort and can cause horrific injury, but far less dangerous knives are not ok.

            I think you misunderstood the legalese. Neither is legal to carry in QLD, and on further checking, commonwealth law has them as a prohibited import. Sydney tools probably got them in a container of tools, and customs did a lousy job of checking.

              @Russ: From what i read a utility knife like a Stanley knife is legal.

              The reference to design and construction ensures that this definition does not apply to a knife
              specifically designed as a tool, such as a Stanley knife. The design of a Stanley knife is clearly
              that of a utility knife as opposed to a weapon.

              Unless there's something else in the law that contradicts that. But Sydney Tools call these utility knives also.

                Having a replaceable blade does not make it a utility knife. When razors went from being cut-throat razors to having a replaceable blade, they were still razors. This knife is still a flick knife.
