Cheap but Good Quality VOIP Service?

Hello

My family and I are cheap buggers…. there, I said it.

So we use VOIP to make calls with MyNetFone (now called Vonex) - but the service is absolutely awful.
People always complaining they can't hear us in different ways etc, long delays sometimes.
And it can be awful on our end too.

It's dirt cheap -that's the only reason we used it so long…. but we need something better but also still cheap.

Any suggestions? Remember the key word…cheap! (no monthly plans etc).

Also related…

If there was some Data only prepaid SIM you could get - where you didn't need to pay for a Mobile phone service - that might be a good idea with VOIP only for in/outbound calls?

But it would have to be cheaper or not far off the $40 a year we have to pay with Vodafone now plus any extra costs for a better VOIP Prepaid and maybe paid for DID?

We'd maybe pay for the DID for people to call us via VOIP; and make all our calls on VOIP too?
Please list the DID price if you know it?

But I assume that's not now, nor will it really be a thing for a long time in Aus (they like to milk us for every dollar).

So yeah - those are the two main bits to the query.

For a (relatively) cheap VoIP - have you considered Crazytel? Have a look at their Whirlpool deal: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/9n1j1mkq

    • $0 Monthly Fee
    • 9c/min to Mobiles
    • 9c Untimed to Landlines
    • 21c Untimed to 1300 Numbers
    • 5c SMS
    • 35c/month for an Australian landline DID

(no affiliation with Crazytel, I'm not even a customer, I make all my calls on my mobile)

EDIT: Ahh… beaten by kogi as I was formatting my post nicely

I don't understand why you would think even the cheapest voip provider is worth it over a cheap month to month mobile deal…

    • Instead of downvoting, it would make more sense to explain so I can perhaps learn something…

Dodo used to have a $5 per month mobile deal (doesn't exist anymore). I'm not sure if anyone else provides something similar these days for $10 or so… might be worth a look.

  • Have a look at Siptalk. Great for my requirements, but may not suit yours.
    But it's an alternative

  • I recently moved to Exetel for my NBN plan, primarily due to their cheap VOIP plans.
They have everything included for an extra $10, including some international call destinations.
Exetel allows its own NBN IP range by default but I requested them to whitelist my VPS PBX IP address.

I previously used voiponline and they were pretty good but a bit expensive.

PS: I also use CrazyTel for business number and they take incoming calls.
