Cheapest/Decent - 365 Day type Prepaid for Mobile? Don't want monthly cap (cheap) nor need incl Data

Hello

My family and I have been with Vodafone for decades; and we'd love to find something as cheap or not far off in terms of price - but ideally with a much better service.
We don't make many calls or text at all; receive them more so.
We do the free voicemail call back thing.

As the title suggests - we're only interested in something where the credit lasts a year at least (and hopefully rolls over too).
Some of us only use a tiny amount of Data - on the odd occasion (we just pay $5 for 30 days of 500mb - but definitely not every month - rarely actually).

Thank you for your help

Have a look at the Aldi sim, $5, 12 months access. Ability to add on data etc. I use this in my backup phone. 2nd and subsequent years min cost is $15.

Wow, you must not have looked at upgrading or how the technology works in a long while!….
These days its all about data - the phone companies don't care about phone calls anymore, most are free unlimited calls and texts … you don't have to worry about free voicemail call back etc. Same with your VOIP post - not a lot of difference these days - the device connects to the carrier and data is everything is that is transmitted, VOIP service or otherwise (e.g. otherwise being something like VoLTE which converts your voice to digital data that can be sent over an Long Term Evolution (LTE) data connection., or VoNR - "new radio"), its all digital transmission and much the same connectivity technology!

So now they basically just market them all based on how much data you want. The connection for calls is neither here nor there, if you can receive a call for free they have to do as much work as if you make a call anyway, so most include it domestically fairly unlimited in their plans now. So yes you can spend next to nothing on something like Aldi mobile as they see it as a 'starter' that you add on… however most prepaid phone plans are cheap for what you get really - I'd suggest you forget all the free voicemail callback and VOIP crap, spend a poultry amount more than absolute bottom rung, and use it however, call away everyday, all the time if you want to, and have a small amount of data included too for basic hassle-free convenience.

    E.g. this one:

Catch Connect 365 Day Prepaid SIM Plan: 60GB for $89 (Was $120) with Unlimited Talk & Text (New Customers Only) @ Catch
Use the calls and text as much as you want and 5GB/month average for lite internet use to allow you to keep basic apps / phone updates etc going… it's $7.42 / month effectively - i've paid that for a coffee these days.

  • If you shop at Woolies, their phone plans become free or at least close to it. My first year cost less than$30. Probably be free this year as I've used the 10%off better
    .

  • You can look for a $30 Amaysim starter pack (not the monthly one with Data but just the $30 one). Sometimes on sale at supermarkets for $10. Then choose the Payg option when activating. So gives you $30 credit for $10, for 12 months access, data taken out of your credit. Similar to Aldi except more credits.
