Cheapest I've seen these shoes. 880s usually $220 and 1080s usually $260.

Both are neutral runners. The 880s are more of a versatile daily trainer and the 1080s are a more cushioned version for long runs or those who want extra protection.

Word is the 1080s fit half a size large so size down.

I don't really need runners, but these are nice looking.

  • Good find, OP, just none in my size/width.

    • +1

Every combo still appears to be available in the "Steel with lead" colour (also discounted).

  • In regards to the sizing, it says under the reviews that:

Probably best to order two sizes and return the second one so you don’t miss out on the sale price. Separately so cashback will register on at least one. (Worth it if shipping doesn’t cost much?)

      • What if it's the wrong one

    • I wish I'd done that last night instead of waiting to try on teh shoes I liked in Rebel today. Missed out on the ones I wanted, but the sizing is chaotic - they even didn't even have consistent conversion between US, EU and UK - one pair had size 9.5 US as size 9 UK and 43 EU. A dfferent model had US9 equivalent to UK8 and EU42.

But I'm surprised to read this is official advice! The shoes I wanted may end up being back in stock in my size afterall. Especially if everybody has ordered two pairs with the intention of returning one.
That's half of their sales being returned!

    • That is NB UK, I am sure there is different T&C for NB AUS.

waiting for 4080 Ti 24GB Founders edition

  • I bought the Fuelcell SC3 elite 3 for $175. Will add to my rotation.

  • 1080v12 is an insane deal, which I grabbed last night. Definitely buy a couple of sizes and return the wrong size. I'm a 9.5 in ASICS and 10 in Saucony, but bought the 9 and 9.5 in the 1080v12, as they run .5 to a full size bigger. New balance don't do exchanges, but do free returns.

      So if I'm a 13, i need a 12?

      • Get both and return one that doesn’t fit

        • +1

Returning is so annoying, im surprised a business lets you do that! They dont have any size 12 anyways.

      Bad religion fan?

      • Name checks out

    • How do the 1080v12 compare to the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3?

  • Thanks OP, picked up the Black with Cobalt

For those planning on buying multiple sizes and returning, it says "Clearance items at a further 30% are final sale unless deemed faulty." (https://www.newbalance.com.au/promotions-terms-conditions/)

    • +1

Damn! Bought multiple sizes thinking I could return them :(

    • New Balance is so committed to your 100% satisfaction, we guarantee it! With uncertainty around lockdowns and shipping carrier delays, we have extended our returns policy for online orders. If you are not satisfied with your purchase, simply return it within 60 days of receiving your order for a hassle-free refund.

      I can't find it?

    • fk. bought quite a few sizes too.

    • Ah crap

    • There is nowhere in the page the suggests these shoes are clearance item.

So it should be safe to order multiple sizes.

      • Oops, I ordered a couple of pairs to keep the best fitting and return the other. That clause about not-returning clearance items can't have been so well promoted as the extended free returns policy banner.
Oh dear, everything I ordered is actually a "clearance" item - I was only aware the socks were.

actually no, you can argue with these terms

  • Gee so you're stuck with a pair of shoes if it doesn't fit?

  • Got the 880v12s at Black Friday for $140 and like them so far, this price is a steal (although they seem to only have a couple of styles on sale, the one I got is still full price - aluminum/red). Trying to tell myself I don't need a 2nd pair in the steel/lead combo!

    • +1

Just noticed there are a few more colours of the 880 if you go to the clearance section of their site.

I just bought the last size 8 of 880 v12 for $65 on ebay newbalance_official. Size 7 and Size 10 still available for $75 there.

    • +1

They have dirt cheap shoes on eBay, wow

No one posted that sale, alot of shoes for $50$60

      • Minimum qty of 10 before you can post here.

I bought two pairs and both was the last of my size

    /cries in size 16

Also rebel v3 is available for $112 ish. Great shoe and better than the 880 1080 in all aspects except maybe durability.

  • +1

For anyone else like me who overpronates and needs the extra stability of the 860, it is also on sale:
    https://www.newbalance.com.au/pd/fresh-foam-x-860v12/M860V12…

I personally think the 860 is better than the 880 and the 1080, but thats just like, my opinion man.

    • The 860 was 50 bucks at Iconic earlier this year

      • I know. I missed out on that one :(
I bought my last pair of 860 for $88 4 years ago from the newbalance online store at the end of year sale.

    • +1

The 880 is designed for supination (feet that land on the outer sole). My feet supnate and the 880 is my got to shoe

  • +2

I just got clarity from the chat that the extra sizes will be refunded. Got a copy of that transcript too.

    • Could you share that, please?

I had noted that, although on closer inspection everything I ordered was subtly labelled 'clearance' when viewed on my laptop, nowhere did it say so when viewed on my phone. Nor on the order confirmation email.
There was nothing to suggest the returns policy was any different for clearance items either.

  • Why do people buy multiple sizing? This only costs the company money sending and returning freight and means others miss out as a result of stock being sold out! If you're unsure of sizing go into a store and try!!

    • +1

Lazy, I can't imagine a company wants this.
It costs them alot of money, imagine what you lose as a small business.

      • Not sure why I got a downvoted for answering the question… if you'd read the previous comments you would see I had initially agreed with your sentiment.
        Anyway…

You're assuming everyone has a local store and that the local store has the styles and sizes you would like to try.
In my case, I have a fairly local Rebel, and I did go into the store however they only had two pairs of New Balance trainers for me to try, neither style was available in my size on the NB website.
I was able to determine that the US9 Wide Fit was the better fit and a pretty good one too.
My previous NB trainers were also a US9 according to the label.

So, I ordered two pairs of trainers from NB, different styles, but same size. Guess what - they are both too large!
In these particualr styles a US9 is converted to an AU-UK 8.5.
The pairs I own and the pairs I tried on equate to an AU-UK 8.
So both pairs will be returned for refund.

As it happens one of the pairs is available on the web store in size US 8.5 (AU 8), but not Wide fit (so will that be too small?).
But the Boxing Day sale prices have ended (before my order was delivered (took 3 weeks) and the shoes are now $25 dearer than when I initially ordered.
The other pair has sold out.

So by trying on before ordering, I had already missed out on some pairs of shoes due to my delay, and the ones that I ordered don't use consistent sizing to the ones I tried on. Reordering means I have fewer options to choose from, still am not certain of the size, and the prices have gone up.
New Balance, thus, have lost out on my sale, and have paid for shipping both ways anyway.
So, how could it have hurt them more if I'd ordered in multiple sizes and kept half of the order?

And since you are concerned about the effect on "small businesses" (or multinational corporation) - what about the practice of going to your local brick and mortar sports store who have bought the shoes and provide them for trying on. Does it not impact them when people go in just to try on the shoes before ordering online from another company (effectively the supplier)?

    • -1

If you read the above comments, the sizings have changed for some but not all styles.
They don't have an exchange policy
Reportedly, a company representative has publicly recommended this action to ensure getting the right size.
New Balance is hardly a small business, and fashion markups for retailers are typically 3-400.Selling at even half-price is still a big profit, even with postage fees.
They can re-sell returned goods - possibly what they use their eBay store to do.

Is it a better business model to have people too worried about getting the right size that they don't order?

It's fellow customers that are most impacted by this.

      • I don't run, but if I did I would probably go into a shop and try various shoes so I know what to buy on sale.

Not guess, and even then the shoe may not feel good.

  • Anyone's 1080s order get cancelled?

    • Yes, with no note. What the hell!??

  • +1

I placed two separate orders and both have now been cancelled with no explanation - chasing up with the online chat now!

    • +1

Let us know how you go, it wasn't some crazy price error so I'm quite annoyed. Cheers.

  • +1

One order was cancelled because it was out of stock. The other order was 'automatically declined by the system' so they can't actually tell why? I placed a third order yesterday, hoping that one is lucky!

They also can't advise if/when/whether the third order will actually ship. I'm curious if they are actually shipping any orders? Both of mine did have at least one pair of 1080s in it….

  • Thanks OP. Lots of comments re sizing but took the plunge. Good looking product at great price. Nice find.

  • Commbank seems to be offering me a $50 cashback too for New Balance with my credit card

  • Lol so Last week I returned one of the incorrect size pair back using their return label on the website.

Yesterday I got an email that the refund have been processed. Today I check my cba credit card and Ive just been charged another - $126!!! by "New Balance Cheltenham" WTF.

Now I guess I will have to chase them up and explain the situation.. Not sure if it happen to someone else here?

  • what colours were the 1080v12s that went for $126? curious as I thought i bagged a bargain using my Amex $50 off $250 spend when they are currently listed for $180 in my size and the colourway i wanted.
