OzBargain Wish List

I wish there was a place i could drop a link to a deal without having to go through the process of creating the deal myself. I often find high quality deals but don't have the time or patience to fill out a deal page. I was thinking about creating my own tool that would create deals from certain store links

    OK.

    • It is a good idea if it means good deals get posted that otherwise never would have been posted. It would also give the team, or the users, a chance to vet deals before they appear on the front page. If a bad deal gets submitted to the lazy area then it just wouldn't proceed.

I wish you would just post the deals you find.
Is it really that much effort to fill the details? Shouldn't take much more than a couple of minutes

To be fair, OP is a koala so probably difficult typing with their claws in the short time they are awake in the day.

It's more giving back to a community where you can, keeping posts high quality instead of "this is a good price" spam posts that would be running rampant if there were a tool to just post a URL to.

    • Since i'm not scanning the internet automatically for deals the chances of low quality content and spam is unlikely. A tool to scrape the deal contents from a page and pre-populate a deal post would be handy

It's not just about you. A tool that could allow anyone to post just a URL with auto-content means anyone would be able to do so, and others could contribute high-spam posts.

It's shame, but with any new utility the consideration of "how can this be abused" needs to be in mind.

  • With OzBargain browser extension (on Chrome or Firefox), there's a button to submit the current URL as a deal & prefill the title (product + $price @ store for selected stores). No way to prefill the description yet. However we do expect our users to at least telling us why it's a deal.

There's always a dilemma in whether we should make desk submission easier. The goal is reducing the barrier, but sometimes low barrier produces too many low effort posts, which increases complaints from the community + workload for the moderators.
