[BETA] Anonymous Deal Submission

After some interesting discussions in this thread, we are trialing a simple way for people to submit deals anonymously. The barriers of submitting a deal can be summarized as follows:

  • Those who are associated with the deal such as employees or some other relationship. I can empathize as my previous job had a couple of deals which I would have liked to have posted however it would have opened up a can of worms. While rare, we have had to deal with a couple of situations where an employee posted a great deal for the company they worked at, only for the management (or different management) to catch wind and order the employee to remove the deal putting their job at risk.

  • Those who can't be bothered, not sure if it is a deal, don't have time, lazy, worried about feedback etc.

Those in the latter category are highly encouraged to submit the deals themselves.

How it works

  • Forward/Send an email to [email protected] or use our contact formand select "Deal Submission" as the category.
  • A mod will then remove any personal/identifying information and post it as a comment in this thread.

Anyone is then free to post it as a deal given it's verifiable. If time permits, moderators may post the deal themselves. We also get emails from affiliate networks which we can also post as a comment here.

Well, let's see how we go.

Great idea neil! A lot of people get turned off from posting deals due to the amount of bombardment they get when people don't consider it to be good. Hopefully this will help fix it.

  • I don't know how this is going to go, but very well done on listening to the community. Thanks also for always making this place a great site with great people!

  • Perhaps allowing users to post the deals with an option to make it anonymous. Only mods will be able to see the user's information and it does take out the middle man of posting the deal.

    • That may open up a can of worms as that requires more moderation time plus this may impact on rep posting limits. Emailing allows users to quickly forward say a newsletter or something.

Let's see how many we get first to warrant any further development. So far 0 since this post!

  • What was your old job?

    • +2

IT. Government agency that sold products for the most part more expensively than everyone else for the exception of when there was a stocktake sale.

      • Not surprised Govt policy prevented you from posting, feel like there is far too many rules in Govt.

        • Not really a govt policy. Marketing: Wow, check out all these sales. Show me how OzB works or can you post on Ozb or what are all these post by Neil at work or oops I sockpuppeted. Probably a million other reasons.

In any case, I don't think it would be appropriate to be posting associated deals and be a moderator. A bit of a conflict of interest.

Well, this was posted a couple of years ago and was not too well received.

These are fantastic prices for business class to Europe and America. Real prices are even a little cheaper than advertised. Eg. Sydney to Vancouver is $4744. Korean Air fly their A380 out of Sydney which is among the best business class product available. The fares allow for a stopover in Seoul too.

    • Posted as a deal, lets see how the community sees it.

    • Thanks Neil going to Vancouver in Feb how is their economy?

      • No idea, never flown with them. I was just quoting from what our source told me.

    DSE Catalogue: Dec 9-15

Looks like an early copy of the upcoming catalogue. Didn't spot anything amazing in there.

  • OK, another from the DSE source.

From December 17, Dick Smith will be clearing camera bags and cases starting at $2. Also further reductions on some clearance items (no idea what).

Lastly, they are clearing out HP computers. However, the head office instructions are as follows:

    ticket

So for some reason, they don't want to display the price but instead you will have to ask a salesperson for the fake negotiated price. Seems a bit crazy but here are the prices:

    prices

The HP 15-ac111TX is going for $1,299 on their website but $999 in-store. Of course, The Good Guys are selling it for $980 so meh.

Maybe someone can find a deal somewhere in here.

  • Dick Smith's latest promotion PDF.

The Fitbit Flex for $49 is a good deal. Hard to say about the rest without seeing prices.

    • I cant seem to open the PDF for some reason (says "HotLink Detected"). Any idea why?

      • Not sure. The HotLink detected should only appear if you are going to the link via another website. Even then it should redirect within 5 seconds. Did you click the link my comment?

  • Why not create an Anonymous account (or use the System account) for all mods to post emailed deals as regular deals in the regular way rather than this clutter?

Could also add a "post this anonymously" checkbox to the deal submission page which hides the posters name or forces the post to be made by system or similar. Could be open to abuse but there would be ways to deal with that I'm sure.

    • Why not create an Anonymous account (or use the System account) for all mods to post emailed deals as regular deals in the regular way rather than this clutter?

The mods don't need to post anonymously. If we thought one of the deals was worth posting AND if we had the time to then we would.

Could also add a "post this anonymously" checkbox to the deal submission page which hides the posters name or forces the post to be made by system or similar. Could be open to abuse but there would be ways to deal with that I'm sure.

Someone asked that earlier in this thread. It creates a few issues and at the moment, we aren't getting many anon deals to justify anything further. Who knows, perhaps that will change?

  • Got this IKEA PDF via FB.

Looks like there are some additional things not found on this IKEA deal or this one.

Here's another update for telstra related mobile plans. It's updated pricing schedules for telstra mobile plans.
The prices of Apple iPhones are being shuffled around on the 15th of March. Up and down there's no real pattern, what I can gather is that in most cases the cheaper plans are lessening in value and the higher plans are staying close to what they already are.

    40% off at Running Warehouse
    SUNSUPER40
    https://www.sunsuper.com.au/dream-rewards/running-warehouse-…

Meant to be for sunsuper members but since they just give a code should be useable for everyone?

    • Not great prices and issues with the retailer in the past.

  • Anyone with some inside knowledge when the next Supercheap auto 20% or 25% will be?

    • Who do we talk to as I can't see it advertised anywhere

      • That's all we have sorry, I just copy pasted that text. It doesn't appear to be an advertised offer, I would recommend asking your local store for the offer as staff members should be aware of it but I am just assuming.

Feel free to share it as a deal if you do get something from the store, or someone else may post the deal based on the information above alone and we'll see what happens in the comments.

        • Fair enough. I'm in contract til the 14th so I can't do anything for now anyway. I'll chase it up on the 15th (if this offer is still even available at that point).
Edit: actually I will try calling sometime this week and see if the staff are even aware

@BlazinPast: I've been calling around the QLD stores. The additional 20% off is only available when the number is coming over from another provider.

If your contract is ending, now is probably a good time to port out to another provider so that you can take up the offer. Harvey Norman rep confirmed that prepaid is fine as long as it isn't Optus.

        • @toasty: the thing that sucks is that I'm with optus til the 14th. If I port out now I'll be hit with cancellation fees. The soonest I can do this is the 15th. Maybe the 16th since I have to port out the number to telstra first. Did they tell you when this offer is ending?

        • +1

@BlazinPast: I’ll find out the end date for you tomorrow when I go in to collect the iPhone X 256 (which I plan on selling).

BTW, I seriously doubt they would penalise you if you ended your contract a few days early. I’ve ended contracts months early at least three times. Get on chat and tell them you need to end it and could they wave any penalties and take screenshots of them agreeing. If you really want to give them an excuse just say you’ll be working out west (rural) and there is no reception on Optus.

          Good luck!

        • @toasty: Yeah I did that. They said I just have to pay an $8 port out fee. I just ported to Telstra so will go tomorrow too and buy the iPhone. The man said it'd end on the 20th. Not relevant to me anyway since I'll complete it all by tomorrow. Now I'm going to see if I can stack it with the 10% student discount online after I've joined.
