Until they bring chromecast option Foxtel play is pretty useless

    • Ugghh……

    • Have you tried casting the screen?

      • +2

Still not a good product if you can't use your phone whenever watching Foxtel. Also, casting screen would probably lead to lower quality. Best to use an xbox or playstation i think.

      • doesn't allow you either

    • +4

We just use the Play app on our smart TV so maybe not so useless for everyone.
Still way too expensive as a service compared to Netflix etc though…

      • That depends, does Foxtel get HBO shows? I would pay a little more (a little!) for HBO shows.

        • +1

Yeah. Probably one of the few reasons we keep our foxtel subscription. Showcase generally = HBO.

        • @Jazqer: sweet, thanx.

    • -1

Just connect your laptop to the TV with a HDMI cable, simple.

      • +2

We're going wireless, having your laptop and TV connected is pretty tedious.

      • +1

That's what we did. Try having a newborn though. You can't get off the chair so easily anymore…

    • +1

      ps4

    • But I has an android tv.

    • don't people plug their laptop or just use the app built into most modern TV's?

App on samsung series 8 is fantastic.

Or plug in laptop/PC via HDMI?

  • +8

Thanks! It'd be nice if Foxtel Play turned out to be like Presto, pretty much perpetually free

    • +1

Why do I doubt this so much?

  • +11

I used this a few weeks ago and it popped 4 months free for me.

The service in general is piss poor though. SD resolution that drops frames on all devices like there's no tomorrow. Interface is also rough on Xbox One and the PC app has HDCP handshake issues every now and then on my Sony X9300D, resulting in 'cannot display content' errors. Only way to fix is to change HDMI channel and swap back.

Wouldn't and won't pay for this once my 4 months is up.

  • +3

Wow still $100 a month if you want all the packages !

  • +1

This is the message that I get:
    Sorry!
Hey there, it looks like this promotional code is invalid. You will not be able to sign up with this code.

    • Same. You end up getting it working?

      • I never bothered trying again. Sorry.

  • Surprisingly there is no Foxtel Play app for Samsung 2016 models.
Please let me know if it is possible (Foxtel already confirmed NO, couple of months back)

    • There are no FOXTEL Play app for 2016 Sony TV as well - pretty useless.

      • +3

I should have read your comment before I signed up, but I worked around that problem by casting from my phone.
Edit: After an hour of hacking a way to watch this on my 2016 Sony, my son gets home from work, is delighted we have Foxtel, and laughs at my story of getting it to play. He shows me the big PLAY app icon that recently adorned our home screen, turns out it is Foxtel Play.

        • Glad you made it!! My case was having connected the TV with my PS4, works like charm.

I worked around that problem by casting from my phone

Do you mean Chromecast? Are you using android phone? At least for my Samsung S7, I can't see any option to cast from Foxtel Play to my X8500D TV :-(

He shows me the big PLAY app icon that recently adorned our home screen, turns out it is Foxtel Play.

Really? What model are you having? Can you take a picture of that? I'm really looking forward to using Foxtel Play on my TV as I don't have arial connection now.

        • +1

@tuanmh: 1. I could not chrome cast so i used a screen mirroring app, it wasn't very stable. 2. The app icon looks like this image >> http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/nettech/images/d/d4/Foxt…. 3. My tv is a Bravia kd 49x8000d.

        • @stormii:

Oh yeah, I'm using Screen Mirroring as well, very unstable but works!!!

My tv is a Bravia kd 49x8000d.

Oh, probably your model has it, mine is X8500D and there is no such app :(

Thanks a lot for your answers!!!

        • @tuanmh: try updating, the tv updated itself the other day and the app apeared, I just had no idea it was Foxtel, I thought it was another gaming client.

      • We just bought a Sony TV and it's on there?

    • That is strange as I've got a Samsung 2014 model and it has the foxtel play app.

    • +1

You sure? I've got a 2016 model (KS9000) and there is definitely a Foxtel app on it.

    • Yes, there is. It's just Foxtel Go, login with your Foxtel Play account. I'm doing so on my Sony and Samsung TVs.

  • +1

Works for me…i see soorts pack will be $29/mth from 1 Feb. Ouch I'll stick to Livestream for my NRL fix then.

  • Apparently Foxtel Go is meant to be going HD this year and getting AFL, so I assume Foxtel Play would be far ahead on the priority list for getting HD. But I wouldn't hold my breath over any of these services moving to HD any time soon.

    • Surprisingly, if you have Foxtel Play on Telstra TV it's now available in HD. The quality is excellent. So other devices shouldn't be too far off.

    • Foxtel GO and Foxtel Play both had AFL in 2016

      • Oh, well the foxtel go i have on OS X does not have the afl channel currently. If i search for fox footy, it shows one episode of the recruit and that is all.

        • Sorry, you are correct. As sena86 said below, it is only on iOS and Android for Foxtel GO.

However, Foxtel Play (the foxtel streaming service) definitely has it, as I signed up for a free trial while I was away last year.

      • Only for iOS/Android, not for PC. But this will change in 2017 with the new broadcasting agreement allowing Foxtel to stream AFL on PC.

  • is there a way to sign up for the free trial without giving them the CC info?

    • +4

Do what I do for things I don't want to have my info. Pick up one of them prepaid MasterCards and just leave it with a few cents on there. Works a charm for all the free Xbox Gold and PS+ trials.

      • +3

Me too but best to leave at least $1 on there. Many trials place a $1 authorization.

        • So far seems to work with a prepaid mastercard that has $0 balance. YMMV and not sure if they'll end up cancelling because they can't authorise it.

        • @chorong: not working for Coles prepaid MasterCard. Says it looks like I'm using an overseas card.

    • +2

When I used the 1 month free code posted on here a little while ago I used a old credit card from a closed account with just a current expiry. Maybe try that? Or a credit card generator as they don't seem to charge till the trial is over.

  • Thanks OP!
Can it be cancelled online or do you need call them up?

    • I signed up and there was a big 'deactivate' button in my user settings. So I guess you can do it online.

  • doesnt work? promo code not valid
edit - redid it with different cc - worked

  • Is this new customers only?

  • +3

decent selection but CRAP resolution. I couldn't watch it even on my Telstra TV where it was allegedly "HD". :(

    • Not all channels are in HD. HD is only available for live streaming (with a few minor exceptions).

      • ahhh that makes sense. Still, if it's only HD for live then stick to your antennae id say as it was too pixelated on my 60"

        • "my tv is too big to watch the thing i didn't pay for"

          World's firstest world problem?

        • +1

Time and effort have some value surely?

        • +1

          @damoo:

hahaha mate i'm just expressing my opinion that's all no need to get cheeky :)

        • @ASTROBOY18:
Yeah no offence intended at your good self- it just struck me as a particularly first world issue.
Still an issue though- no doubt.
Things are supposed to work how they're supposed to work.

          It's frustrating when they dont

  • +1

it worked for me but i cant see any options for content ? what does foxtel play pop pack means ?

  • can anyone figure out where you actually cancel the service after signing up? i see deactivate account but that doesnt sound right.

    • +1

Deactivate account is the option you use when cancelling the service. I have signed up some time ago for a free trial and used deactivate. Oddly enough, this free 3-month trial worked for me on the same email i had already used for a trial previously.

  • +1

    Cheers OP :)

For any one interested Walking Dead S7 is on FX Anytime btw. Episodes 9-16 airing early Feb-Apr.

  • So are any of the channels in HD as watching SD on a 65" UHD TV is very blocky/blurry.

    • Hey mate apparently it's just the live streaming tv in HD. I tried them too and they were still blurry for me but each to their own. I think once foxtel get better servers or offer higher reso's they'll be really good.

  • +12

i cant believe people pay for this junk. i signed up, viewed 10 mins of a westworld episode on my 1080p display and it was like 480p quality. whoever is in charge of foxtel's direction needs to be fired, they cant keep up.

    • +3

Yeah I had the same experience, their 'HD' for their on-demand shows is rubbish (we tried Westworld, GoT and some others). Their live streaming channels seem okay, but how the hell did they think forgetting to give on-demand the HD upgrade was okay! It was worse than DVD quality and thats not acceptable for what they are charging. We soon cancelled.
And it is definitely a problem their end, we can handle Netflix and Amazon 4K fine.

  • Note to self: take offer up when Game of Thrones starts airing :)
(and binge on Seas 7 of Walking dead)

    • +1

This is most likely a special offer cos of Presto shutting down this month I would reckon. So not sure if it'll still be available by then.

"With Presto coming to a close on 1st February 2017, we would like to invite Presto customers to join Foxtel Play with this special offer."

      • +1

The conditions say 'Offer valid until expiry of Presto voucher which is no later than 31 July, 2017'. But maybe they could end it earlier.

The default Presto offer is a measley 2 weeks free.

    • when is game of thrones starting ??

      thanks

  • We already have presto (it finishes up on the 31st 0f Jan)

Wonder if this will work after that and if I need to sign up with another email address

  • Do you definitely get Foxtel? And do Foxtel subscribers get access to this for free?

  • So I still have to pay $15 per month? or its completely free for 3 months??

    • Completely free for the first 3 months

  • Can anyone tell me where the code is entered? I can't find it for the life of me!

  • Looks like it's been ozbargained! just the following message "Sorry! Hey there, it looks like this promotional code is invalid. You will not be able to sign up with this code."

    • I tried yesterday and got the same message. I tried again today and it worked!

    • Keep trying champ. Did the same to me a few times but then finally it went through.

  • Just signed up, worked a treat for me! Used same email address as I have with Presto but different credit card.

  • Can this be stacked with Telstra TV 1 month free offer that gives you access to all packs?

  • +1

Logged in to the Android app, all I saw were mostly locked content and those that I could access had 60 second ads that can't be skipped :|
    Yeah not looking good.
Where's the "show me only what I can play on my Plan" screen

  • Looks like they've invalidated all the remaining Presto codes…. Tried every one on OzBargain, and all failed.

*Edit: I take it back, it worked, after trying about 5 times.

  • Worked for me after a few times trying

  • +3

Hmm did anyone else get charged $15 after one month? Just saw a charge for the 11th on my account.

    • +4

YES, I got charged as well, $15 Pop Subscription and then $5.77 Credit, so charged $9.23 .. not happy!

  • +4

At the end of the first three months, the ongoing subscription fee for the Pop pack will be $15 per month.

Liars. Charged me $15 after the first month.

Foxtel support wasn't able to help. Apparently they don't have access to view Foxtel Play ONLY accounts.
They were very sorry for the inconvenience and said there was nothing they could do.

    • +3

Yup they also told me they didn't have the ability to reverse the charge. (profanity). I know it's foxtel so none of us should be surprised… but that's pretty terrible.

  • +1

Foxtel on Facebook fixed up the charge/bill for me… May have helped that I hadnt paid as I provided a card with only $1 balance on signup.

    • +1

I contacted them on Facebook almost 5 hours ago. How long did it take for you to get a response?

      • Roughly 5 hours

        • +1

          Took 3 days.

  • +4

Phone support fixed up my $15 charge but be prepared to fight for it. I was on the phone with them for 45+minutes until they finally realised the problem and credited me the money. Ask for Jerome; Title Supervisor; Division Foxtel Manilla. He will be happy to take the phone calls for the next 24-48 hours ;)

    • +1

"A lot of our supervisors in Manila are Jeromes"

That was the response I got when I called up again with the info you provided.

      • +1

And you accepted that? These guys have every excuse under the sun.
He claimed to have no employee number as a supervisor so not much I can do for you there.

Still haven't got my complaint call back which he claimed would be in 24 to 48 hours so if they eventually call me ill try find out more info for you.

        • +1

Spent a long time on hold while they tried to figure out what to do. Eventually got transferred to someone in Australia.

A refund is apparently on the way now, but takes up to 5 business days to process.

  • +3

Same here called foxtel yesterday and the xollection team said all foxtrl play issue can be solved online.. trying for a credit card charge back now
