Looking for a Spot in Sydney to Work Remotely

The allure of working from home permanently is starting to rub off. Do any of you Sydney remote workers have a spot you go to regularly in or around the CBD?

I'll probably try to do this one days with no calls as that seems to be the pitfall of a lot of options.

I have plenty of mobile data so Wi-Fi isn't a must-have

State library seems to be a popular spot along with the Startup Hub at Wynyard (4hr maximum?)

As this is OzBargain a free price tag would be ideal but open to considering others.

Cheers

Genuinely curious, but can I ask why you want to work somewhere in public? Part of the allure of remote working for most is that you’re actually at home and don’t have to commute or be around others.

Sure, I live in a very small apartment and the same 4 walls 24hrs a day 7 days a week has started to get old. Didn't really expect to find myself in this situation but here we are.

      • Yeah fair enough, I get that. I also see below that you don’t have access to an office through your employer so that definitely makes it harder too.

I’m not from Sydney so I don’t have a specific answer but I have had some friends use a local cafe (where they already had a relationship with the staff, and didn’t fill up tables when it was the busy time, unless they also ordered food), and some had luck just searching for “coworking space” and finding a few and trialling them all.

        Good luck.

Permanent WFH would be nice, I have to go to the office twice a week.

    • I always assumed I'd be someone who could do it forever but I guess I was wrong. Who knows, maybe a stint working externally for a month will remind me how good I have it.

  • Has your existing/previous workplace done away with physical work location?

We have an office, but I'm sort of a contractor so can't use it. My team is global and im the only one in Aus so it gives me a lot of freedom.

      • Damn. A recipe for loneliness. I’d chat to the client, my employers have all had contractors on site - know your type of work may be different tho 👍🏻

  • Why would you want to work in public, and what if you have meetings and calls?

    • Did my post not answer both of these?

      • I see you replied to someone else above. I get it. I work from home permanently and have (over 2 jobs) done so for 2 years now and am bored of it and lacking motivation. Would love to be with other people. Maybe a co-working space would suit you? Would cost money though

  • Apple store, on a macbook.

you can hunt around for a cafe with the right ambience and a bit of privacy. library generally isn't a good place as you will be too loud.

I would suggest Darling Square Library. Fresh modern decor, plus you are seconds away from a variety of cafes, restaurants etc to grab a bite. There are outdoor spaces nearby if you need to clear your head, take a break, meditate etc.

    • Putting it on the list, cheers

    • This looks awesome
