  • These have been out of stock in stores for weeks ive called multiple stores after checking online and been into stores nothin g & been told by staff that there inventory is always incorrect.

    • They were definitely in stock…

  • 14.5v dc is an interesting one.I thought most of these portable fridge freezers were on a 12v dc /240 AC platform.

      12V-24V range usually

The alternator of a car puts out an average of 13.8v, so any device made to run from a cig lighter has to withstand that + a little extra just in case.

Don't believe any specs listed. I own this fridge (cream and white colour…which is actually black and grey).

Voltage running under lithium battery gets down to 10.5v.

Specs say up to a 50v solar panel can be used. But I haven't tested the upper range.

The fridge does work well though, and I'm using an 18v solar panel + the 5.2ah battery (which the specs say something like its 172wh…which again, is way off.

My tip would be to join the lid seal. They leave a gap in it.

That's normal. I think you can specify different cut off voltage limits.

      • Hey mate, i cant find this info anywhere. But does the fridge recharge the battery when the fridge is running off the vehicles 12v or does it only recharge if you have the solar panel?

        • Unfortunately I don't know 100% for certain it does (but 99.9% sure it does) as the fridge does recharge the battery when plugged into the 240v wall outlet, which is just a 12v transformer pack, which is the same as running off the car.

So I would safely say it definitely does, but I haven't actually seen it first hand. Can try tomorrow if it will put you mind at rest?

          • @tunzafun001: Is the lithium battery's nominal voltage 12v or higher?

          • @tunzafun001: Ok awesome i appreciate it. I searched all over for info and everywhere mentioned charging the battery by solar panel and i couldn't find any source saying the fridges AC or DC charged it.

I don't want a solar panel, the fridge is in the little run around car and just used for town trips for shopping etc and usually parked under cover. I have a Waeco and solar in the 4wd.

Have you tested how long your 5.2ah battery lasts once the fridge is at temp on say a 25c day?

            • @LowRange: Can sort of work it out.

              5.2amps for 1 hr @ approx 12v

So roughly 60watts for an hr.

This thing cycles on /off at 45 watts. So just over an hr (if empty and little thermal mass). If full, it wont cycle on as much (say 1/3rd as often). So 3 -4hrs

I use a cheapy 30 watt panel from Ebay. Its smaller than the esky lid, and if the panel is in full sun (say sitting on the dash while parked) it keeps the fridge going all day from the 5.2ah battery no problems. Cycling 45 watts is basically the same as 30 watts constant.

It's not really stated how the cooling function is powered

Based on the price I'm assuming it is basic peltier cooling technique?

    Not a fan. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermoelectric_cooling

    • Thermoelectric fridge will not need a compressor. So no it's not using peltier effect.

      • But my understanding is thermo electric is in fact a peltier not some mysterious third technology.

"Such an instrument is also called a Peltier device, Peltier heat pump, solid state refrigerator, or thermoelectric cooler (TEC)"

And it sounds like you think a compressor is peltier no you are clearly wrong

        • Sorry my answer is short so it might be confused. If you read the description, it mentions "a reliable compressor", a fridge using peltier effect will not need that. So this is just a normal fridge with compressor, refrigerant, etc.

@ntb: Great thanks that's all I wanted to know because the specs did not specify the technology I was asking

    • It's a 45w-65w compressor mate (depending on what mode you are running it in).

Note - It won't run in 65w mode under the 5.2ah battery (gives an error message). Needs to be in Eco mode. But still got the fridge down to 1C, freezer -15c no probs.

This particular one has compressor and not using peltier.

  • Showing $299 for me…

Yeah, the deal ended last year.

Crikie another year time flys fast when your getting older: (

    • They have discounted this model on multiple occasions, I would reckon it will come back on special again
