Servo Car Wash Unspoken Rules/Etiquette

Hi All,

One of my pet peeves when using automatic car washes at servos is when people park/leave their vehicle in the car wash queue before heading inside to pay. Is this a jerk move? Is it socially acceptable to reserve a spot in the queue before paying?

I'm of the opinion that there's an unspoken etiquette where you should park in the customer parking first, pay for the car wash and then proceed to the queue.

I've had several instances around Sydney where I've been stuck behind someone that's left their vehicle unattended and paid for the car wash after me.

Minor nuisance in the scheme of things but I'm curious of everyone's opinion.

Just hand wash your car at home.

I can claim car washes as an expense at work as a dirty car doesn't look good to clients. It's never as clean as a wash at home though.

Seems servos in OP's case are odd that they don't have paying machines at the wash so there's no need to go inside.

As a client of your I don't care what condition your car is in.

I just want cheap tablets (not the medicinal kind)

Agreed there's no company logo so does it really matter?

I'm holding out for the next Ali sale. Some new cheap tablets coming out this month.

You can claim them regardless as it's considered maintenance

I would wash the car at home if I didn't live in an apartment with limited space or facilities to wash the car.

I would wash my car in a car wash if I could be bothered taking off the roof racks.

      • havent tried this but apart from the normal stuff maybe you can use one of those pump sprayers for water, it wont blast anything off but it should be enough to wet the car. or if there is a tap near enough a 9l watering can

or just buy a hose and take it with you

It also protect the car, just look at how many cars have those circular marks all over the body.

I didn't know parking in the queue was even a thing - definitely a total dick move

    • Even if you did not cause any delay to anyone?

      • Now you're asking the hard questions!

I guess if there no chance of someone who already has purchased it waiting behind you then it's okay imo

So I was waiting for the air pump. Just parked at the fuel pump. The car at the pump finishes and leaves. While another car enters.

You need to do a eye sweep first.

    You eye sweep first.

    You don't just go in.

It's like at the gym with equipment take a eye sweep to see if anyone else is waiting.

Cause if I'm waiting to use a power rack for my quads. You also know someone elseles quads be waiting

      Just so I'm clear here:

You were parked at a fuel pump.

You weren't parked at the air pump.

Somebody else parked at the air pump.

      Is that what happened?

While waiting to use the power rack for their quads… 🤔

        • +1

No doubt the waiting was done sitting on another bench, on their phone, for 30 minutes having done only one rep with an, at best, average weight.

That's a nuisance, because then you have to wait for that prick to finish. It's queue jumping that is.

  • Just go to an auto wash.

There should be a mobile car wash similar to mobile dog washing. Are you listening Jim ?

  • I don't think I've ever used a car wash that wasn't pay on entry so I can't relate to the issue. I'd probably be so surprised that it's not pay on entry that I'd accidentally (profanity) it up for everyone else and end up having to go in while my car was due to be washed.

You pay for a Car Wash!! Lazy and or Wasteful or both, work expense or not.
No hand wash at my complex, but a friend does, and the grass benefits form all the car washing.
