Help sought please; MS shows Xbox GPU 'management' transferred to Telstra (utilised 1 month free, console bought from TGG)

wall of text below, I'm feeling like a vent.

Edit; there are two accounts in use. Mine is working per normal, but the other is afflicted per below.

having some fun with MS and Telstra and giving up for today, online chat is sloooowwwww.
per subject title we are in a bind because MS says Telstra have management control, Telstra have searched and there is no account matching the scant details used to setup the xbox account.
MS account was set up seven years ago with only initials and a ten year older DOB because it was for my child. not patient enough to go back to MS just yet. Hoping someone else has had this problem recently.
MS did confirm that the expiry of GPU on this account is one more month than I had recorded so 'one free month' has been redeemed in some form.

Recent happenings;

Bought Xbox series S console from TGG during BF
sat in box for 2 weeks
plugged it in and 'someone else' set it up and redeemed 'one free month'. I didn't see the Ts&Cs, there is nothing on or in the box.
fast forward to recent days and I attempted to redeem a 3 month code on the PC using MS page, and I can't. the option to 'redeem a code' and other options do not appear, only 'manage' which after two 'manage' clicks arrives at a Telstra site explaining the subscription of a box & GPU
https://www.telstra.com.au/entertainment/gaming/xbox-all-acc…

I hopped on the console, same thing. if I try and manage the subscription it launches edge to go to telstra

so i get on a chat with MS and try to explain. one response is the code won't work because it is a 'promotion' code (I've redeemed many such codes). maybe I shoul;d start another account (wtf?). when I reaffirm that I cannot visit the correct page to redeem I am told that Telstra have management of the account. during the chat I redeem the code on a different existing account, it works. when i tell the agent, oh great that's good. my reponse is I hope you remember this for the next person and we still have the same issue of not being able to navigate to the page for redeeming a code. end of the chat is i need to ciontact toestra, i ask who they give me general info, thanks

I contact Telstra, go thru 40 minutes of chat with first person to be told, here is another person who can help. yeah, nah. neither first or second person can find a trace of the details used to set up the xbox account on telstra services, I even throw another non telstra phone number which has been used for receiving info re the xbox account, no dice.

so i'm back to having to go back to MS and try my luck again. FFS

luckily the MS account does not have a current visa card and who knows what 'telstra' info there is

Learnt the hard way, never let Telstra "manage" anything, ever!

Jesus what happened to plug and play

    • Yeah, my mega drive 2 doesn't need updating either (if it still works)

I mean, updating is fine as long as it's optional. Switch and PS4 can be played offline without issues

  • Paying for 3 months sounds like a lot less hassle and much less time wasted.

  • I work for Telstra, but I’m on leave for a couple of weeks. But there’s an email address that Telstra agents can escalate Xbox issues to.. tell the agent to search Knowledge for “Xbox escalation” and it’ll bring up the details

    • Thanks, I'll give that a go next time I contact Telstra.
I'm wondering if letting the subscription expire will mean I get control back

Unless I'm missing something, it sounds like the issue is that TGG sold you a used Xbox as a brand new one and this is the root cause of all your problems. Wouldn't the solution be to just take it back to TGG to get it swapped with a new one?

    • Rereading my post it is not specified that there are two accounts in use. My account functions as normal.
The box seals looked factory, I even tried peeling at first but ended up slicing instead for a neater result.

      • But you said:

plugged it in and 'someone else' set it up and redeemed 'one free month'. I didn't see the Ts&Cs, there is nothing on or in the box.

        Seems conflicting?

        • sorry, not me. 'someone else' in my family
          .

  • I can remember some others suffering similar issues with telstra a while back.

    • Thanks for those links. My searching didn't find the ozb one. I've spent 3 hours so far with chat, looks like letting it lapse 'should' work. Glad it's not my account.

  • I had a similar thing as you where the Xbox was managed by Telstra. I bought a new sp9 and signed up for the free month through the ms App Store and now is back to normal

    • "sp9" what is that?

      • surface pro 9 - basically try activating xbox in windows it might fix it
