I have been looking at getting some proper crockery for my next place and while the S&P deals look nice and they have swanky sets, I need something durable that I can chuck into the microwave, dishwasher, etc. My parents have used Corelle for decades and while it's not so sexy, I suppose we have to compromise on some things!

Great crockery, have the 16pc winter frost set. Lightweight. Easy cleaning in dishwasher. Fine in microwave and fridge. The plates (not mugs) can withstand drops better than regular crockery, no chipped or broken plates and I've accidentally dropped a few times.

Note in that set, the mugs are not the lightweight Corelle material, they're a normal porcelain or whatever is normal.. they're sturdy, nice shape, but do get coffee and tea stains inside.

Plates do show faint scratches after awhile when you cut on them, not sure if that's from steak knives or normal ones.

These have been coming on special at Woolies what seems each couple/few months, I think sometimes cheaper than this, but low stock.

Yes, maybe better to just get the items you will use when on sale at Colesworth. The saucers are a bit useless if you just buy more dinner plates they do not take up any more space in the dishwasher.

I dropped a plate on concrete and it bounced. I started with maybe 40 plates for everyday use many years ago and now mostly only the Corelle left. The plain white ones are not ugly.

I've also had the dropped but split into a BAZILLION pieces experience ;)

Still love Corelle though even after that. The plain white ones are also the easiest to clean.

Glad to have avoided that so far but have over the years had a couple of plates and a bowl split it two. Not during or shortly after after use/abuse, but just randomly (e.g. while stored in the cupboard).

We have corelle and some Maxwell and Williams. M&W is much heavier and gets used less!

I really like the corelle noodle bowls for ramen too.

Have had the winter frost set (plain white), for many years, only ever managed to break one thing, they are tempered glass and almost indestructible. Highly recommend. They are also light weight.

And yes, the individual pieces are often on special so you only get what you actually will use instead of cluttering up your cupboard.

My plates are as perfect as the day I bought them no evidence of knife scrapes.

Most of my plates have chipped. I bought 3 of the frosted white sets from woolies. The cups all show scratches at the bottom.

    • @rack, do you have the vitrelle (toughened glass), ones as they don’t chip.
